Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

@Vorpy: Yeah, I'm new 'round these parts. The forums, specifically. Still getting accustomed to the area though.

One thing editing Wikipedia (and my time on the Arbcom) taught me is that all sources are questionable. Newspapers are atrocious sources, in particular.

yeah, that. And that they're generally in a rush, and even if they publish a correction, the original remains uncorrected. And all they hugely care about in the fact-checking process is 'Can we be sued about this?'

It's not like corrections are terribly noticeable, either.

If I'd been in charge of that sort of thing, and general editing, when I worked on the school paper one of two things would've happened.

A. I end up rewriting the vast majority of articles.

B. We go to print with red text because all of the blood lying around would be cheaper than ink.

I would hate to work for a newspaper. It seems like a very rushy environment, and the fact that many of them are struggling with their reliance on a static medium isn't very appealing either. (Though I like newspapers themselves for being tangible)

For future reference, lmgtfy

And that's not fully precise, since it's an irrational number. Sadface

It's about as precise as you'll generally need, and as precise as Windows Calculator thinks it needs to be.

Is there a time limit to how long you can hold a ball in dodgeball? Cause I've been getting made fun of/harrassed about it, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Dodgeball has so many rulesets that you can't even begin to apply one version to another.

Heck, I know a free-for-all version.

There is no time limit, but you can give it to someone who lets you know they have a shot, or is the "designated sniper/thrower". Otherwise it's just people being dicks about rules that don't exist. Like standing near the edge of the designated area, or staying way in the back.

Weird urge to figure out what's written on the opposing page.

Obviously, the derpiness is just a cover for her true nature as a cyborg assassin.

What's that one kitten with the really big eyes and the ears back. It's an orange tabby. It's a meme, and a really common image. Link and name, please?
