Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

Why is Twitter particularly popular?

Or am I just witnessing an illusion where a microblogging service is more popular than a general blogging one which is also popular?

Twitter is popular because one has things to say that only take two or three sentences much more often than things to say which need a blog post.

Why is Tumblr popular?

^ Because hipsters denying their hipster-dom needed a place to go.

^^ But normal blog posts are capable of being that short...

Yeah, but what's the point of a blog that short?

Twitter is also more spontaneous than a blog. It's much easier to tweet from anywhere you happen to be than it is to blog.

Twitter and blogs are popular because many people feel the need to tell others about their boring lives. With Twitter they don't feel pressured to put work or thought into it.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.

I got Twitter and a blog so I could shout what I felt like shouting without bothering anybody who didn't want to hear it.

Does anyone know what I can do to cause this rather than this and this (editing the HTML seems to be required)

There's always position: absolute; but that won't center it.

I am so sick of hearing the word Hipster. I like Tumblr. :/ The word Hipster has lost all meaning to me.

^ Maybe I find the wrong people, but they are most certainly there, and there are a lot of them. The circulation of funny pictures, however, I approve of.

What's the name for the type of men's longcoat that was popular in the UK and maybe the US back in the day, like the 1700s and 1800s, that had a long single column of buttons?

^ HOLY SHIT that led me to a no-hotlinking page and then to an intrusive page trying to force me to do a survey and playing a sound and posing as Facebook.

As for your question: No, I'm thinking of an older style that has far more buttons.

Huh...didn't happen like that for me.

Also, then, I can't think of what it is you're looking for.

^^ I think they were popular with soldiers back then. They're like, the typical soldiers' overcoats or something, with a long column of like ten or fifteen buttons, not sure how many.

^ No, somewhat less long and far more buttons.

More specific question, rather than trying to find the name of my guess of what something is:

What's the name of the coat shown on this character here?

Does it go to a server not found page or a forbidden page or no-hotlinking page?

(Also, sorry for overreacting a bit to the link you posted.)
