So, who here plays Wo W? (Yeah, like troping wasn't enough of a time sink)...

I've got two characters on Tortheldrin; a Level 41 Tauren Hunter named Salisbury, and a Level 12 Undead Rogue named Killiankore. Been thinking of starting a troper guild, but wanted to make sure there were enough of us first...

I used to play Wo W.

Only played it for like two months, then later on for 10 days on a BC trial.

I'm an active player my main server is Thorium Brotherhood.

Here's a list of characters I've leveled:

Aius: Lv. 80 Blood Elf Warlock

Goutetsu: lv. 80 Orc Death Knight

Arkgain: Lv. 66 Orc Hunter (Abandoned as of this edit.)

Sorry for the bumpage, but I'm actually a bit amazed that more tropers here don't play WoW — or at least haven't found this thread.

My primary realm is Vek'nilash (US). I have an 80 Balance Druid (Resto alt spec), an 80 Retribution Paladin (Prot alt spec), plus several other toons. I'm in a raid guild that's currently 8 bosses into Heroic Ulduar: http://www.clanyawa.com .

I also have a 23 Undead Mage on Ysondre (US) that I play sometimes when Vek'nilash is undergoing extended maintenance.

I'm a lore nut, in case my contributions to the Warcraft page don't make that obvious.

Kudos if you actually visit my guild website and use these clues to figure out my main's name.

I played World Of Warcraft up until TV Tropes The TV Show took off back in March. I had just gone through two months of guild drama, so I kinda burnt out on the game, and TV Show was a good substitute.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I play on Kirin Tor... when I play. I've been without a subscription for a couple months because of money and burnout issues. I think my undead warlock is 75 now and just entered the Dragonblight before I last cancelled.

The Old Republic looks like it might end up being the World Of Warcraft Killer.

Considering the 11 million reported players of WoW, it's surprising how many "burned out" tales I keep reading. Or maybe not; pretty much every raid guild regularly bleeds from the top as hardcore players realize how much of their time/personal lives/sleep they've lost and try to get some of it back.

Then again, WoW has a pretty big recidivism rate. "You'll be back" comes true as often as not.

I've got 200+ days played across all my toons. I worked it out to just under 4 hours per day for 4 years. The sad part is I know people who are a lot more hardcore than I am.

My wife got me playing it fairly recently, and I have a level 54 troll hunter named Mindala on Crushridge. Not huge amounts of play, though, and we're not in a guild; that sounds much too organized. We just double-team everything and sometimes join up ad hoc with friends.

Never played World Of Warcraft. Never saw the point of paying a fee for playtime that I might not use up. I have paid real money for virtual goods before but I like being able to make sure that every cent gets used for something as opposed to bleeding off to nowhere when Real Life needs my undivided attention.

I just figure that I waste much bigger amounts of money on things that I don't get as much value out of, dollars per hour of entertainment. Also, I don't link my credit card to it, so if I forget to pay, my account just goes inactive. If I'm not playing the game that month, I won't notice and won't care.

Your monthly subscription fee gets you full access to the game whether you play 1 hour or 80 hours. Based on my average play time, I figure my fee comes out to about 0.12 USD per hour. I dare you to find an equivalent entertainment elsewhere that's as cheap.

It's just that if I pay for one month and I only get to play for an hour tops during that month due to unforeseen circumstances, I lose the rest of the time I paid for.

That's some fucking hardcore unforseen circumstances if you're only gonna get an hour of free time during the whole damn month.

He isn't alone though — a friend of mine doesn't play any pay-to-play MMORPG because then she would feel some kind of commitment to get the the best Return On Investment out of her money. And no, the "but you just blew 10€ on some shitty movie" argument doesn't work either.

What I want to know is: why the heck does everyone in World Of Warcraft have to JUMP all the time? It's like the world Pogo championships or something.

Because jumping is fun.

It's a little-known clause of the Terms of Use. You must jump once per play session or you lose your account.

Because there's an Achievement for jumping 50,000,000 times.

It gives your fingers something to do on long trecks. Plus, if you're an elf, sometimes they do flips and spins.

I'm not familiar with WOW, but I've noticed that in many games, jumping, or doing sommersaults is faster than running, also, just running is boring.

the statement above is false

I thought it might be a speed thing, but experimentation seems to show that it's much of a much. At least on the flat; possibly jumping is faster downhill, though the landing could be painful.

So my conclusion is that it's player boredom and hyped-up over-caffienated ADD kid players.

Also, I play a troll, and trolls just jump in a kind of practical boring kind of way. No flips, spins or tumbles for entertainment.

Jumping on a land mount is often quite fun, especially when you mouse turn in midair and go spinning around like a top. It's also useful for clearing obstacles, and can give a slight speed bonus when going downhill.

It seems to be a common meme on the forums — beware the level 1 forum trolls. In fact, it's common to roll level 1 characters of any race and use them as one's voice on the forums. This leads to another forum meme: "Post on your main", meaning that people who use level 1 alts are automatically assigned less credibility when making statements about class balance, etc. This gets as idiotic as you might imagine.
