From the interview, it looks like they're still hashing out a deal for a new show.
Fresh-eyed movie blogFeels like a missed opportunity that they didn't get around to the A-Team until after jettisoning 3/5 of the cast.
Fresh-eyed movie blogWe're four episodes into the season, and they're all "_______ specials". They've been calling any themed episode a special for years, but at least they had the sense to space them out through the season.
Fresh-eyed movie blogApparently there wasn't one last week?
The week before's drift racing episode felt like "The Mythbusters Top Gear Special".
Fresh-eyed movie blogI kind of think the stuff Adam and Jamie are doing at Tested.com is more interesting than their recent work on Mythbusters. Discovery should have retained the M7 team on Mythbusters and graduated Adam and Jamie to Still Untitled TV.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI feel like the distracted driving test they did this week was either too harsh, or had terrible drivers. Well, actually kind of both, since half the problem was a high number of terrible simulated drivers trying to get into collisions.
Fresh-eyed movie blogCBS is working on a scripted spy drama based on Jamie and Adam, which the two are exec producing
.
"..two Hollywood special effects artists (...) are recruited by the CIA to complete seemingly impossible covert ops missions by creatively using the most basic tools from their craft."
That...could be interesting...

So it's like a mix of Mac Guyver, Burn Notice, and Mythbusters?
I'll watch it, that sounds entertaining.
Testing the Jaws compressed-air myth for the second time.
I think we can safely conclude that Mythbusters has run out of ideas.
Who remembers when the "myths" were urban legends they interviewed cultural anthropologists about instead of "is it actually possible to do this thing a movie did that anyone who knows anything about physics finds laughable?" (Looking at you, "Curving Bullets")
Fresh-eyed movie blogHow about the moment when science was so awesome, it didn't fit their narrative?
They had a story about a van full of leaky paint chemicals catching a spark and exploding, and the plan was to just leak chemicals into a van haphazardly, see it not work, and then teach about stoichiometry while they figured out the exact mix needed to make it explodey.
And then it exploded on the first try. No story, no episode. Until they did a "favorite moments" clipshow.
Fresh-eyed movie blogOne more season and a go-out-with-a-bang finale. The decision was at least somewhat mutual since Adam and Jamie are exec producers. The two will likely split off to their own projects, Jamie on building and Adam in media. M5, Tested.com and such will continue.
Wow, it'll be sad to see them go. Still, 16 seasons is not bad. And maybe it's just time. They're running out of good myths to test, and they put on a great show that entertained and educated millions. Poor Discovery Channel is going to have to resort to drastic measures now...

From what I gathered from the article it was a normal salary negotiation that happens in long running shows. The idea of a second show probably wasn't even thought of, or have a place there. Think about it, Discovery offers $X, the crew wants $1.5X, where does "hey, let's just give you your own show?" come in?
