You bastards have gotten me nostalgic. I've always said that the original doom is the best video game ever made, no exceptions. Nowadays "Guy with an assault rifle" compromises 98% of all first person shooter obstacles. Lame. Whatever happened to VARIETY man? And ridiculously over the top cartoony gore? And CHAINSAWS? Last FPS i played with a chainsaw was Urban Chaos Riot Response. And that was actually a buzzsaw.

Most modern game's BF Gs are wimpy. Even the Redeemer isn't satisfyingly fire-and-forget enough.

They're not source ports. Sorry for the confusion. They are the sound settings within Skulltag. Oldschool OPL sucks for Doom 2, FMOD is similar to MS GM but less terrible, lol. Doom 1, OTOH is awesome in OPL.

The BFG 9000 was the best BFG. That is all.
It doesn't really count as a weapon mod, since it's part of the whole wad, but the one I mentioned earlier? Switches things up so all ammo is infinite, and your pistol is replaced with an SMG that fires in three-shot bursts.
Infinite ammo sounds overpowered, but trust me, you will fuckin' need it.

It saddens me that the only FPS with an arsenal that even came close to rivaling doom's was Turok which is also really old.

The graphics in the original Doom are 100% better than in any graphical overhaul I've seen. Except for the backgrounds, Doomsday backgrounds are awesome.
What makes me like Doom is not even the insane arsenal, but the insane speed. The player is simply so damn fast and it changes the game style completely... and that's not taking straferunning into consideration. (I can't straferun well BTW)
