Drew something for The Fanon Rangers project over at Troper Covens. Primarily a shading exercise, as the concept didn't turn out at all (IMO).

Here is the post outlining my proposed design aesthetic for Fan Dumb, which I was trying to demonstrate. The piece probably would have been better if I had more time and/or had planned better (upturned asphalt at the base, perhaps more tentacles, definitely trying to make the "tooth" structure look more like a tooth), but as it stands I'm very glad to have gotten some shading done (and the middle looks very, very cool).

3-year-old Demetrius London from my writing, as also posted in that thread. Do not click if afraid of little kids, though he's definitely not the loud kind anyway.

More about him is in this post.

Aww, harmattane, that's adorable. I love the jacket, and the kitteh looks very kitteh-like. I can see someone making a lolcat out of that kitteh.

Today, I bring an anthropomorphic vision of comics, which as a title is way more interesting than the actual picture. I was inspired by this site, and the burning question, "If the various forms of media had human bodies, what would they look like?" It turns out, like nerds.

I might complete the series; I have designs for most media, it's just a matter of drawing them.

Comic book comics. Superhero comics, in particular.

I SPENT SEVEN HOURS ON THIS!

What do you think?

This is just about half of the important characters from that comic I'm working on.

The seven hours of work really shows in that meticulous shading you did—it matches up across all the characters, and you must have used a ruler or something to keep them all perfectly straight. Also, I'm a fan of black and white art, and your characters definitely look distinct from each other even without color, so kudos! The only problem I can see is that the hatching doesn't work so well for light hair and skin—you might try smudging the lines with a tissue so it doesn't look quite as out of place.

This portrait took... uh, half an hour (not counting the hour I spent cleaning up smudges from my crappy not-kneaded eraser!). I just wanted to see if I could do a three-quarter portrait and get across a fluffy, layered look towards the ends. Also, I don't think I got the eyes right.

Wheezy, it looks great. The shading is well done (especially around the eye of the girl at the bottom), the lines are crisp, the expressions are lively, the designs are great... You can tell a lot of effort went into that, and it looks amazing. :)

Leradny, looks good. The ear might be a bit out of place, and the neck's a bit long, but the hair is nicely done, as are the eyes. I detect cunning and playfulness in those eyes! You've captured a lot of expression in very few lines.

Strangely enough, the shading took me under an hour, and I do it all freehand.

The layout and lineart - making the faces look right, positioning the features correctly, and correctly drawing poses took the other 6/7ths of the time, as it always does.

I agree—the time you spent on that shows, Wheezy.

And apparently I draw instead of post. Elaborating on the one dress of those two other ones. [1]

Same series as the last (early 20th century + Egyptian influences), and as of this drawing, I am only 50.445 period outfits away from being declared a Class C Anomaly by the Time Police.

harmattane, how do you come up with so many awesome outfits? They all look cool and stylized, and you churn one out almost every day. Hoooooow??

Um, I may draw one about every day, but I come up with maybe 20, though mostly unimpressive variations of the same. If I put them all on paper, there would be visibly fewer trees. How I do it is by having a lot of space in my head.

Alright, for Obake, the game J Bridge and I are doing for Kunin, we're looking for someone who can do some concept art for the Obake itself, which is the plane you will be piloting during the game. Some things about the Obake:

  • The game is set in about 2034, in an alternate universe in which WWII ended with the Nazis taking over Europe. The Obake itself, despite the Japanese name, is an American plane. (In the game's story, it's as such because it was designed by people in an internment camp.)
  • The shape of the craft should be such that bullets could scrape off—however, there should be a small, obviously visible cockpit such that when the craft is seen from a birds-eye view the cockpit is roughly at the center. (In-game, the cockpit will be the hitbox of the ship.)
  • Furthermore, the Obake should look maneuverable, if that makes any sense.
  • The craft has three weapons—a minigun/cannon(if you've ever played a shmup, this is the basic shmup weapon), a laser, and missiles. The three weapons are going to be fired concurrently, so they have to be in different positions on the craft. What we're thinking is that there should be two minigun emplacements on the wings, a laser either on the nosecone or on the belly of the craft, and the missiles should fire out the back of the craft.
If any more information is needed, just ask.

^ I don't generally draw machines, so I might try my hand at this, just to get some practice. Some questions: What style of plane are you looking for? Something more WWII (propellers, heavy noses), or modern (angles, jet engines), or futuristic (slim, thin, curves)? Do you want a jet or a plane? How big should it be? How many men are aboard? Is speed more important, or firepower? How does the pilot control the aircraft (buttons, throttles, joystick, touchscreen, wheel, etc)?

On an unrelated note, this is a chipper ninja girl I drew some months ago. She, uh, she's supposed to be missing an arm. >.>

Modern-ish, but with WWII references if they look cool and functional. It's a one-man fighter. Maneuverability is the main concern, but it packs one hell of a punch. As for how the pilot controls it, I hadn't thought of that.

There's no space in the name.

^^^I might sketch something, but if I do it'll have to wait until sometime next week. Exams and all.

Expect a bird mecha before that.

Also, this shmup kind of reminds me of this.

Just wanted to share some random doodles I did recently. It's pretty much all fanart...seems like everyone here is really good at drawing self designed things, which I'm not very good at...ah well.

Harmatte - I want to see more of this mook catalague. My evil fortress could use some variety, right now I'm stuck with Blue Gas Masks version 1.2.7. Well, I guess that's what a low budget gets ya.

Drew a bald guy. My mom says he looks familiar for some reason, which is weird since I didn't base him on anyone. I made it so I could practice shading(badly at that). I didn't shade the shirt...forgot.

The shading looks a bit like hair, which I like, because it makes him look like he's got male pattern baldness (I love drawing bald men). I'm wondering where the light comes from, though, because if it hits him face on, then the eyes wouldn't be in shadow.
