I'm beginning to think that Oda can't do sword fights well given how quickly Zoro's end.

Comments on how strong he is, and then one shots him 1-2 pages later.

But hey, lore.

[up]Technically, this wasn't a sword fight, since his opponents used a spear and a scythe.

[up][up] I feel like that's more of a consequence of the extremely hasty pace that [this part of] Wano is exhibiting — I feel like Zoro's pages this chapter constitute the largest unbroken number of pages featuring a single fight (well, a conjoined pair of fights) in ages.

I do wonder when the pace will slow down enough to actually stretch a fight out for more than a single chapter again — maybe once Luffy starts fighting Queen? Or perhaps we'll have to wait up until the final fights of the arc begin in who-knows-how-long? It certainly feels like Oda can't wait to get to it.

To put my two cents in with some earlier speculation: I do agree that it seems almost impossible that this conflict with Queen isn't going to end with Big Mom absolutely annihilating him for eating all the oshikuro that should have "rightfully" been hers, with that being so strongly hinted at — though I would find it hilarious if instead Queen just managed to successfully distract her by offering it to her as a deal, and the whole set up with Chopper and co. trying to use her to bust Luffy out of prison was just a set-up for that punch-line. But if it's not a misdirect, then, yeah, Queen is going to get fucking dunked straight to hell by the end of this.

:But I will say, whatever else happens with how Big Mom's "assistance" is resolved, I don't see Queen beating Luffy here. He's a serious contender, no doubt, but I see no way in hell that he's more powerful and dangerous than Katakuri was — just cuz' he's got the bigger bounty doesn't mean anything for certain in terms of personal threat. Bounties, it must continue to be said, are measurements of how much the World Government wants a pirate dead before anything else.

Im starting to think Oda has a lot in Common with the writers of Voltron Legendary Defender. That is that they cant do mecha/sword fights very well.

Spoilers have been leaked for the next chapter. One of my thoughts: Hello there, Hiyori Kozuki.

I don't expect Queen to be stronger than Katakuri, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he were. Bounties might not be exactly equivalent to power levels but you can still definitely use them like that with pretty good accuracy many of the times.

Katakuri isn't inherently special enough to ignore that, and a lot of the things about his reputation stop being impressive if you give them enough thought.

So who is the chick who was secretly Hiyori? It's not the courtesan that we were expecting right? Is that the first Samurai lady they saw?

[up] I'm honestly not sure if this is supposed to be Komurasaki or not. It looks like her, but she looks like basically ever "mature" attractive One Piece woman.

[up] Yeah I’m confused too.

I can’t tell if she’s the first chick we met in Wano with the apparent split-personality thing or someone new entirely.

Though at least one question is answered here.

[up][up][up] There is an extra page after the last page that shows who is in which part of Wano. Jump didn't even bother trying to hide, it's Komurasaki Anyway, anyone else thinks that the code was stupid as hell? Anyone with even a passing familiarity with the culture of Wano - ie everyone except the Straw Hats - and some brain cells could have identified it. Perhaps it is just me, but Oda relies a bit too much on idiocy, dumb luck and coincidences to move the plot in this arc.

Tall Samurai lady is currently with Chopper and Big Mom, so it can't be her.

Honestly my shock was more about me genuinely not recognizing her then her actually being alive.

I am becoming more disconcerted that my ability to tell the female characters apart is draining.

I think it's more the fact that her behaviour was completely different (which to be fair, was expected) and also it was reminiscent of Kiku's shyness.

So like... she obviously survived thanks to that toad oil stuff, but does no-one in Orochi's retinue find it weird that there's no body? That seems really fucking weird.

I think this is the first One Piece arc I genuinely don't enjoy reading. The pacing is messing up the story, and it's generally a bit all over the place.

People are really making a big deal out of Zoro passing out from his shoulder wound...

I guess those types of people will always exist.

It is true that lately the Strawhats seem to fall more and more often in Strong as They Need to Be, especially during the first part of an arc (see also: Sanji and the others being held hostage by Capone's goons back in Zou)...

So apparently Zoro was supposed to have passed out from hunger, and not his actual wound? Is that better?
