At least we are indeed in Wano instead of some detour. They got there surprisingly fast actually. I didn't think they'd get there until after the arc wrapped up.
Guess now we know where Ace learned to make bamboo hats.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if this is why Kaido attached Whitebeard en route to Marineford. One of WB's crew infiltrated his territory and for something in the process.

Oh nice osservation!
Speaking of bamboo hats, if I recall, the guy who drank with Crocus in the cover of chapter 631 (I checked the Wiki, I don't remember exactly every chapter) was from Wano... I wonder if he'll make an appearance...
Usually the "detour", like Foxy's arc, is to have a short arc so we can breathe between two long and intence arcs, but this time we've had the (really short but damn intence) Reverie arc

Random thought: now that we're in Wano, will Luffy see a tanuki and mistake it for Chopper?
Edited by sgamer82 on Jul 12th 2018 at 7:40:57 AM
He didn't mistake the tengu mask for Usopp, so I don't think so.
Also, I wonder if O-tama can produce other types of candy besides kibi dango (specifically goshiki namagashi since those were created for the historical O-tama's wedding cerimony). By the way, her befriending the baboon by offering kibi dango is a reference to Momotarou's legend. That's how he got the dog, the pheasant and the monkey to join his party.
True, but the tanuki thing has more precedence as a running gag.
Random Thought number two: How long has Momonosuke's group been on the run? Could what Ace did possibly have been to smuggle them out of Wano?
Otama's liking of Ace and apparent link to the Kozukis' suggests a connection to me.

Damn that Ace. Breaking his promises and all that.
Always knew he was no good.
At least Brook didn't let a little thing like death keep him from trying to keep a promise.
I was wondering if O-Tama's power was meant to be a reference to how the goddess Ukemochi created food, but then I remembered that Ukemochi's method of creating food was much grosser. At least no one went Tsukuyomi on O-Tama after seeing the way she created dango.
Now I'm wondering if she's meant to be another Momotarou reference, considering how she befriends a baboon by feeding it dango.
We'll know for sure if she Dango-Tames a pheasant at some point. It'd be funny if she ends up the Momotaro reference rather than Momonosuke.
So what I am getting from this discussion is that Aokiji will show up at some point in this arc and O-Tama will befriend him.
It's kind of a sick irony that someone who has the power to make food from her own body is going hungry.
If she tried it'd probably be like Pizza the Hut and she'd eat herself to death.
That it is. That it is.
Do you think we're going to see Izo? Apparently he's been dressing like a geisha since he was a child, so maybe he's from Wano. It would also be nice seeing some of Whitebeard's division commanders that aren't Marco.
It'd be even sicker if her ability is powered by calories. Meaning she's actually making herself hungrier each time she uses it.
Poor little thing.
So where do you figure "headliner" ranks in Kaido's hierarchy?
I'm guessing that they serve as leaders of smaller squads and whatnot. Maybe they are the equivalent to either Marine Captains and/or Vice Admirals. They seem to be officers in any case.
I think a rank below "Calamity", though it could simply be a unique title given to the leader of a certain squad
Is interesting to note that, with Hawkins, we now see where all the supernovas are sided:
Interesting that, except for maybe Bonney, none of them aimed for Blackbeard.
I wonder if Apoo, Drake, and Hawkins have sincerely joined Kaido, or just to undermine him from the inside like with Bege and Big Mom?
I'd beat the former, but could see Drake at least being genuine.
Ops, a mistake: Kidd, Apoo, Hawkins and Killer aimed at Shanks, then Kaido literallly dropped on them. Though so far I can't tell who is genuinely loyal and who is not. Drake is the only one who attacked him directly, and it isn't clear if He did it to be noticed and join him or was simply stomped and so he joined.
I think Blackbeard caught Bonney because he knew who she is and her importance to the marines, since that was before the time-skip and Blackbeard wasn't an emperor yet
In fact, it's interesting to see how much stuff Blackbeard knows. I really wants to know where he comes from and what his story is (like, how he went from a crying kid to the men we met)

I can't really take this kid seriously. "waaaah we are so poor that even rice is an unheard of luxury for us and now i the littlest orphan drank poisoned water from big bad meanie kaidou"
Eat your damn bamboo hats, kid. People cook bamboo and bamboo shoots all the time. And can't your master hunt or something?
Oh, right, did the current shogun allied with Kaidou overthrow an older nicer ruler? I get the feeling he did. 90% odds that she's that person's daughter or granddaughter.
