That's part of what I meant with "variables" - particularly, the one that collectively includes all unknowable factors.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Need I remind you that Jose was unharmed by Admiral Kizaru's light beams? It's all about how the Devil Fruit powers match up; the battle between Mr. 3 and Magellan near the end of the Impel Down escape arc is a prime example.
And since his power is to become literally Made of Diamond, I'd suspect that Akainu's magma-based Logia fruit would be harmless against him. For those who still don't get why...

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Aokiji did freeze Jozu, remember? Akainu, on the other hand, is useless against him.
I'm a bit unclear on how Kizaru's powers work. He can turn into light, but he never seems to use the abilities that moving at the speed of light would imply. Maybe there's a limit to how far he can travel at once as a beam of light?

some people only seem to have short term memory. it's a damn shame.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyHalf-way across the world, content with letting two of the world's major power blocs beat the crap out of each other?
While it's certain that the Revolutionaries are all for the World Government and their military being taken down one or several notches, I was always had the understanding that they were against everyone they deemed to be responsible for protecting what they see as a stagnant and unfulfilling world, and that includes Whitebeard. If they didn't, then why wouldn't they have formed an alliance with him or Shanks beforehand?
This clearly didn't quite work to Dragon's personal advantage, of course. But then again, it's not like he was following Luffy around the Grand Line, playing mysterious guardian the whole time.
Edit:
What I wanna' know is, who opened the gate, to let Luffy and co. in? And why haven't they revealed themselves yet?

Didn't they get in because Whitebeard caused a massive wave which lifted their ship above the gate? Which Aokiji froze and the wave eventually crumbled with them dropping over the gate?
And I think the gate-opening your referring to is Bon-chan letting them out of Impel Down.
You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person. It's true that Luffy's gang reached Marineford itself as you said, but still, someone opened Marineford's gate.
Ah, nevermind.
Edit: Oh man, I was reading the One Piece WMG page and I saw this:

Granted if Luffy hadn't showed up with Crocodile, Junbei, and the okama queen dude (sorry I can't spell his/her name) the marines probably would've faired better but still.
