Eh if the spirits had participated in the battle we'd have fans declaring deus ex machina or whatever.

So Best Korra season?

That ending was more Deus Versus Machina than anything.

God wins.

Well, there we go.

Wow. They actually went there with Asami and Korra. I'm shocked. Wu actually does turn out to be awesome, something I kinda suspected would happen even before he started doing it. Though my prediction was that he'd turn out to be shockingly competent once he got the throne. Instead, it was more like he matured into someone who could have been a great ruler had he seen fit to do so. Ironically enough, whatever choice he made, the Earth Kingdom would have been well off.

Hiroshi Sato makes the ultimate Sacrifice, for his city and his Daughter. Varrick and Zhu-Li do the (marriage) thing, and Tahno is now a musician. Kuvira did a scary job of covering her bases. She didn't even know about EMP's but was still ready for them, she found enough Platinum to make metal bending the suit from the outside impossible, and I'm impressed that she was apparently able to jury rig the canon with the vines that were around the city in the short amount of time between her entering the forest and Korra following her.

Korra is truly a great Avatar now. She still has a long way to go, but what we've seen has been interesting.

So long legend of Korra. It was fun.

[up][up][up] So, my opinion. I was thinking the third one will stay the best, but by now I am willing to reconsider. At the moment my verdict isn't set, but the finale did exceed my expectations.

On the Korrasami thing, I'd like to say there is a differnce between not minding writing a relationship for two characters and throwing shippers a bone at the end because why not, and genuinely intending for it all along and not being able to because censorship or what not.

I'm not denying the implication of that ending, just saying I haven't seen anything that changes my opinion that most of the shipping stuff was people reading more into it than was there and them just deciding to go "Eh, why not, it would be a cool way to end things."

I don't have anything to add. But everyone needs to look at this line.

That was a pune, or play on words.

See, Deus Ex Machina literally means "god from the machine".

Versus is a latin word as well.

So Deus versus Machina would literally mean "god against the machine".

Like, the Bridge between Spirit and Physical worlds, embodiment of light and balance against a giant fuck-you laser cannon.

...Then again, the Colossus and the laser were powered by spirit energy, most of it seemingly from Vaatu.

So I guess you call call those literal Dei Ex Machini.

Or [down][down] Machina Ex Deus, actually.

Now, had the spirits showed up at the last moment, would that be a Deus ex Machina versus Machina ex Deus?

Varrick and Zhu Li somehow become two of my favorite characters in the Avatar franchise this season. How the heck did this happen? I don't even mind, I'm just ecstatic that they both got a happy ending.

...

I just relised one downside to Hiroshi dieing so soon.

If they ever expand on Korrasami in the comics we will never get to see his reaction to his daughter boning the Avatar, and considering he was an Equalist....

So... I'm pretty pleased with the episode. It was pretty damn solid.

Korrasami was handled well. I must admit I'm a bit disappointed in it because I really liked their friendship, and not to sound like a Bechdel Test loony but it was nice having two women have a well-handled friendship.

Honestly, I just sorta like seeing well handled Platonic Life-Partners, since writers tend to default to a Relationship Upgrade when characters get along well, you know?

Considering he worked with Avatar and a bunch of other benders to stop Kuvira, I'm think he's over the Equalism thing.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Or maybe he didn't want his prison cell to get lasered with him in it.

Or he didn't want his daughter to get lasered in general.

He stated he was doing it to protect republic city though, history is full of people working with some one they don't like to defend against a bigger threat.

Yeah, but trying to protect Republic City and his own daughter aren't mutually exclusive goals. tongue

If he didn't know about Amon's true face, he might have been disillusioned as well.

Or maybe seeing a non-bending president get elected made him regret his radicalism.

Or maybe he realized that revenge for someone he lost made him lose everything else that was important to him.

Maybe, in spite of everything we've seen of their conditions, avatarverse prisons are actually quite good at rehabilitation.
