— In unison, the ten Necrosian legionnaires nodded, and then they were dust in the wind.—

Mohan gestures towards the ridge and the rapid wind swirled and spun, becoming funnel. For a brief moment, all the surrounding air was being sucked away but then Mohan stabilized a loop. Then he stabilized the spell itself.

"I'll go first!" He told the ordinary men assembled behind him, "If I go splat, then don't follow me!"

He jumps into the funnel.

There are only two mages now. You killed most of them, remember? Also, ah, here is everyone.

Mohan lands more or less on target, a few feet away from the action. The mages, completely caught unawares by the sudden materialisation of elite legionaries behind them, are easily beheaded. The fighting is over before it begins, and now the heroes command the heights above the enemy army.

Resistance against the Bludgeon is beginning to solidify. As he wades into more and more spear points, they begin to start throwing things back. Crossbows may not be able to penetrate the armour, but the crossbows not involved in frontline fire against the paladins and archers now focus on putting as many dents in the head armour as possible, as spearmen begin to pry off the protective armour using their spears at the weak points like levers. The spearmen, with nowhere to go, begin to swarm all over the Bludgeon.

"Get up onto those cliffs!" Richard

The 7th and 8th begin to advance upon the cliff side, covered by the 2nd and 6th, but they begin to take losses as the crossbows are still in good enough order to fire down upon them, punching through their chain armour like paper mache. Richards unit suffers the worst of it, the 7th, going down in droves to archer fire. Harrow makes better progress, but still suffers casualties as the 8th begin clambering up the cliff-side, ready to assault the crossbowmen and take the flank. The 4th begins to move up the slope behind the 8th, as the 10th moves up the left, ready to punch through the centre in column once the spears are dealt with. Thankfully the spears are still in too much disarray to do more than harry the assaulters.

-As the spearmen do their work, large chunks of the armor are pried off. Slightly hampered by the proximity of the spearmen, the Black Bludgeon uses its shield to slam smaller groups. yet it makes no effort to get out of the melee.-

The fighting at the front intensifies. The 4th and 10th charge in on both flanks, the pike wall bolstering the Bludgeons position as the spears are suddenly faced with this new threat. Meanwhile, Richard manages to get soldiers up onto the left ridge but despite the best efforts of the 2nd, the crossbows inflict heavy casualties, firing across the field rather than down to maximise the number of bolts the archers get off. Having finally got a foothold, Richard is soon fighting for his life amongst his soldiers as the unit begins to waver.

"I need the skirmirshers! Get the 9th up here!" Richard

Harrow, meanwhile, is still climbing, the weakened 8th facing a barrage of crossbow bolts. The Bludgeons shield bash throws scores of spears against the rocks but the few remaining spears who aren't being turned into pikewall mince throw themselves desperately at the beast, managing to loosen a few chains. The invisible wall does not move to let them retreat, but merely exists, menacing both sides.

(The portals do their job. Suddenly the archers cry out in fear as screams amongst their own ranks indicate the presence of several horrors gutting the units from within. Unfortunately, one of Richards men are amongst those hit. The monster goes down quickly but Richard has to physically grab one of his soldiers by the collar and bawl at the top of his voice ot prevent a rout.)

"If you bloody idiots run now when we're close to breaking them, I'll have your heads on bloody stakes! NOW GET AT THEM!" Richard

(Harrow finally gets her men to the top, taking advantage of the melee. The 5th now begin to move up after them as the macemen begin to relentlessly grind their way through a mixed melee of monstrosities and men.)

(Mongrels findings are mixed. On one hand, the mages appear to have been low quality elemental mages, relying on their numbers to cast devastating area of effect spells. On the other hand, there is no sign of illusion magic. These mages, then, were not the ones who cast the invisibility spell.)

Satisfied by the success of the plan, Mostrue finished casting the spell, the wind fading as gradually as it began. Realising what was happening to his protege, he tried his best to support Richard's unit by calling down a few small lightning bolts upon the enemy - although nothing less than a direct hit would harm the crossbowmen to a significant degree, it would hopefully make them reconsider their choice of enemy.

If the unit he had been assigned to had not already moved forward to assist Richard's soldiers, he cried out, "Assist the 7th and 8th as best as you can! We cannot allow the enemy to fight with impunity!"

(The lightning bolts terrify the archers, but while they are taken aback, these are professional soldiers... but the fear of these mercenaries is nothing compared to the cry of dismay that flies through the 7th. Once again apparently cursed by seemingly impossible luck, the men of the 7th are soon falling back towards the cliff edge, several soldiers grabbing their stricken commander, unconscious, the only man of the 7th to be hit by one of the stray bolts, and dragging him back into their own lines. For a second, the 7th seems about to waver... until a single figure charges past the retreating men, right into the midst of the enemy archers!)

"What?!!"

"Oh Gods!"

"For the love of the Gods save the lieutenant!!"

"At them lads!"

"For Appleton and Richard! Into the breach!"

The 7ths inexperienced lieutenant, John Appleton, has charged out into the enemy ranks, daring his men to allow him to fall. Mostrue watches the whole near-catastrophe, unable to make out if his stray bolt has killed his protege' or not as the 7th pour forward with a rage that seems impossible for these once mild-mannered merchants. Appleton is soon swathed in archers, but his armour protects him long enough for the 7ths maces and heavy armour to start smashing through the archers lines.

It is too much for the archers, and they fall back in confusion towards their own reserve. Appleton bellows downwards.

"GET THOSE LAZY BASTARDS UP HERE BEFORE I COME DOWN AND MAUL THEM TOO!!!" Appleton

(Around Richard, a small number of soldiers, clearly the appointed medics, try to get some response out of the knight. They do not get a reply so far.)

Richards condition is critical. He has a chance of stabalising which improves on each turn, going from a perfect six to recover down to a two. If I roll a one, however, he dies. If Richard stabalises, he still needs to be healed in order to fight again, and counts as incapacitated.

"You heard them! Come on then, mage, and try not to fry any of our forces as you go!" Margaret

(The 2nd pour forward towards the ridge, swiftly backed up by the 9th.)

Of all the... alright, hold position. I'm going. Reinforcements are coming.

Yes sir.

Lamret was quite surprised by his misaligned portal and further stray thunderbolts.
- No no no, something is wrong, - he muttered to himself. - I should not have missed like that. The must be some interference, there is no way there isn't...

As he murmured, strands of mist swirled around him, streaming to his eyes, covering them with a blindfold, blocking the material world and showing it's underside. He peered into the very fabric of reality, trying to discern any disturbances nearby, small and big, whether or not they could really disturb his portals.

The signals Lamret recieved were vague... conflicting. Something was up with the flow of magic in the field. There were signs that there had been very weak, but well placed energies which had made slight adjustments to the flow of energy as directed by others. It was universal; Lamrets interdimensional magic was affected as surely as Mostrues energy bolts. The trace, however, did not seem to come from any particular organism. It was independent, not inherent in the place, but something independently placed into the mixture, and each time, it had been done in such a way as to push things slightly out of synch... enough to cause catastrophic friendly fire incidents but go unnoticed unless one actively searched the fabric of the world.

"If we move him in this state, he could die from his injuries. Can't you try again?" Medic

(Angrily) "Magic is the reason he's like this... its the reason one of our men back there ended up one of those freaks back there! And now here's another bloody magician to finish our captain off!" 2nd Medic

"Johann, we're not in a position to choose right now!" Medic

(To Kay)

"Come on! There must be something in that magic everyone so afraid of! If you can't save even one man, what is the point of having paladins, or mages?!" Medic

(Meanwhile)

"Diplomatiker, are you coming?!" Roxanne

(Roxannes bodyguard is already moving up towards the ridge, passing the halfway mark from the legions starting position.)

(...and on the right flank.)

"Come on, damn it!" Harrow

"Commander, we're not doing well!" Carver

(Harrow and Carver are fighting through the archers, but things are not going their way. Still understrength from the earlier fighting, the merchants of the 8th are failing to make much headway against the superior numbers of archers facing them, and all though two fall for every merchant, still the sides are evenly matched, and as the already smaller party, Harrow knows her forces won't stand for any sudden reversal of fortune.)

"I hope Richard is doing better on his..." Harrow

(Harrow notices the retreating enemy soldiers... and the crowd of medics.)

"...Gods damn it... come on, don't be..." Harrow

"Captain! What is it-" Carver

"Nothing!" (turning her attention to the melee again just in time to throw off an attacking archers sword-thrust towards one of her men. Harrow focusses on keeping her mens attention off the scene on the left flank... or at least that part of it.) "Come on men, the 7th are making us look like fools!" Harrow
