@AC: Pick a side will ya? Unpleasable fool.
Yay. I'm OK!
@Ed: Usually such a thing would occur if you are waiting on a line or something.
Read my stories!Well yes, I have an aversion to lying, which is one of the few things that makes my job difficult.
One of the other big parts is if I tell people "what they want to hear" then they'll get their damn fool selves killed. Because what they typically want to hear is that fucking around with 230VAC without any training or safety precautions because they're too cheap to call a proper electrician is totally safe and sensible.
I do not know if randomly talking with strangers really makes one social or extroverted at all. I feel like that happens to me decently frequently and I doubt anyone would call me social. I think that is a lot different than talking to someone one knows or being social at one's workplace or school.
However, I try not to initiate such random conversations partially because I am never sure if another person might be annoyed by them.

Just had a really long conversation with a stranger, which moved me to dig up this topic. I'm starting to enjoy this sort of thing; it helps that I'm figuring out that unlike the city I moved from, here you can just talk to people and that's okay. It's a paradigm shift, but a pleasant one.
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuI seem to be a little weird in that, while I don't like getting involved with other people very much, I nevertheless do enjoy some casual chatting. A 20-minute chat at work or on a bus or something? Sure. Prolonged isolation is not a good thing, as I learned last weekend.
no one will notice that I changed thisI'm not an extravert.
But I can usually hold a conversation with a stranger for about ten minutes, longer if there's a common subject. Cars will do it for me.
Then I'll need to recharge for about a day. Hence why I like the Net, I can talk to folks here all day and it doesn't wear me out.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.

Come on, there is nothing more awesome than coming home from the grocery store or mall having talked to a complete stranger for ten to twenty minutes and really enjoyed yourself.
