Not big on rap/hip-hop but I saw Saul Williams supporting Nine Inch Nails back in 2005 and he was AMAZING! Would love to see him again.

Saul Williams is only a rapper part time. He's a slam poet too.

It means he writes poetry and then gets up on stage and reads it in a dramatic style.

You saw Saul Williams? I'm a socially inept chicken and I didn't go see him when he came to Tel-Aviv. sad Loved NiggyTardust, too. That is, the moments his excessive use of "nigger" didn't perplex me.

Haha, just realized I got sad about someone getting to see Saul Williams when I missed a NIN gig as well. Screw it, I hit 18 in less than a month and start going to shows alone. Forever alone.

Saul was amazing live but I've yet to be absolutely thrilled by his discs. Amethyst and the self-titled are good but Niggy Tardust just sounded like Saul rapping over NIN to me. Plus yeah, the over-use of the N-word got to me - I really feel Saul is better that that.

I'm fond of Buddy Wakefield, personally.

I like his weird, rambly style. Though I've yet to pick up a proper album, I should.

Apologies if this has been covered, but does anyone have feelings on Lil B?

It means he writes poetry and then gets up on stage and reads it in a dramatic style.

This is said as though this was not awesome.

On another note, I just listened to some Afrika Bambaataa. (*Hip-Hop moves into "Thing I should listen to more frequently" category*)

Listen to "World Destruction". It's him, Timezone, and John from the Sex Pistols.

LOOK HOW AUTHORITATIVE AND HOW BIG OF AN EXPERT I AM LOL

I see

  • A list of albums
  • Album covers
  • A title that says "Essential Hip-hop Albums"

There is nothing here that indicates the authors believe that their taste is better than anyone else's. Do you just have some kind of aversion to lists like this or what?

As an aside: this list was most likely compiled by a single person.
