Noted.

Also, yes you do.

It might be good to take the "Start with their most recent and work backwards" approach.

Just listened to "Uncommon Valor (A Vietnam Story)".

That was intense.

Yes, yes it was.

Can I ask where? There're a couple places hosting slightly different versions of the song.

IC, there are -I think two- different versions on youtube with different openings. And one with the second verse cut out.

Another thing:

I've been listening to Movies for the Blind recently.

It only barely makes sense. Barely.

Cage is mighty.

Of course, I'm probably only saying that cuz I'm a Jukie, but still. His stuff is good.

Some of the tracks are great, but most of them are "GUNS SEX DRUGS SLUTS KNIVES MURDER MURDER". Not bad, though.

Cage is clinically disturbed. So yeah.

He's not my favorite rapper, but he's pretty good.

You know, I've been wondering this for a long time:

What on earth is a "new jack"?

A rookie, a newbie. Also refers to a specific style of rapping [1]

Well, the way I've always heard it used is similar to "groove". But it's a slang whose meaning is (to my knowledge) regional.

Oh yeah, and there's also the genre of New Jack Swing, which is a bit of a hybrid of R&B andd eastcoast rap, as i would understand it.

  • Grayskul
  • C-Ray Walz
  • MF Doom
  • Haiku d'Etat

I have one Haiku d'Etat album. It wasn't bad, a bit Dilated People-esque, with maybe a bit too much forced rhymes. Not bad, but not the greatest either.

'sup guys.

Cage = good, though creepy. Haiku D'etat - I've only heard one song, was amazing. Immortal Technique - also good. I only mention him because I associate him with Cage for some reason.

  • Grayskul - Horrorcore act, they are not however, another group of ICP wannabes, they're actually pretty good, two members, Onry Ozzbourne and MC JFK, I find Onry the better of the two.
  • C-Rayz Walz - fix'd, he's on Def Jux, the same label Aesop Rock's on, not a huge fan, but he's good.
  • MF Doom - On the Rhymesayers collective, he's really good, he's kind of hard to understand though, verbally speaking, cuz he's got an odd accent.
  • Haiku d'Etat - unfamiliar with these guys. Gonna have to ask someone else.

I asked about Grayskul because I heard the term "superhero-rap" used to describe them.

Wicked: Some of their songs are based off of "nerdy" stuff like comic books and video games, yeah. "Voltronic Instructional Espionage" is about Doom, IIRC.

They're not nerdcore by any means, though.

I know I gush about Aesop Rock a lot, but this might be the best thing he's ever been on, that first verse? Wow. Just, WOW.

Also, that's not him in the video, it's an actor. The video description clears all that up.

Huh?

The lyrics on that track are pretty clear, or so I thought, let me listen again.

Seems to me to be about the same dude that "Jet Son" and that one song on Labor Days is about.

I don't know his name, but Aes raps about him pretty often. Actually, I don't even know if it's the same guy or a person at all, such are the speculations of the fandom.

I also forget that I've been listening to Aes much longer than you have, sorry.

Baka as in Baker or as in Baka?

Probably the second (not that I'd have known the word signified anything without that link).

Why would anyone be lost on the "jewish mc"? The Beastie Boys are Jewish.

Hype Backlash against 'types' of MCs, basically. For example, over here a lot of people I know like rap but can't stand UK hip hop. But I know you lot are open minded. And granted, I don't recall meeting someone who didn't like something by the Beastie Boys.

This guy Afu-Ra from the GSF has caught my interest.

Also, I need to listen to Atmosphere.

Love Afu, just clicked with me from the first time I listened. Only gig I ever left early was Atmosphere. Mostly cos of the annoying crowd, but I wasn't feeling it live.

And Haiku d'Etat, I got the same album as Jethro did about the same time. It was alright, but I haven't felt the urge to listen again yet. Their guy Abstract Rude is pretty good though. He did this track with my colleague's labelmate.

Oh and MF Doom is awesome. That is all.

Now back to normal sized posts.
