I thought it would happen at some point, but not in that wat... I hope he's alright...

Given the author note, the odds of that being the case are kinda low.

Well crud, I was looking forward to him making it back to the surface and being re-accepted into the pack (I know I know, they kicked him out, but hells, killing a god...).

I was hoping he'd be cushioned by the squishy-softness of the heart. But as heroic sacrifices go, that was a pretty badass one. Hard to beat arguing with a god and "NAME--IS--ED!" as ways to go. Thinking about it, it also makes the story a lot more meaningful in some aspects.

If he doesn't make it — and by all appearances he isn't going to — he did what he came here to do.

I just hope he gets a nice big Tear Jerker for a death scene. And that the hyenas accept him back into the tribe posthumously.

Well at least Digger isn't going to have to fumble her way back to the surface in darkness. I wonder what the hyenas and the veiled are up to now.

Discovered this comic yesterday. Read the entire archive. It's easily one of my favourites.

Love-love-love this comic. Also: the Crowning Moment Of Awesome page is not yet awesome enough. Just added Murai's You Shall Not Pass! moment from Chapters 11-12 and Digger's 1200-years retort from the quotes page (and Chapter 12).

Just got to reading this. The mix of drama and comedy is amazing.

About flaming time, I've been wondering what was happening in the daylight world. I just hope we get some flash-backs.

Just what is the 'thing' anyway I wonder, and precisely how would it work on a wooden statue?

I thought 'the thing' was where Boneclaw Mother pretended to read your mind, spelled out all your motivations and dirty secrets, and creeped you out.

Yeah, it's not magic or anything, just something you get from paying attention to people for long periods. Which is why it wouldn't work on Veiled.

Except that it technically 'did' work on the Veiled. I still don't see how it'd work on the statue of Ganesh though.

Well, that's not «mind-reading», that's just having a way with words.

Second webcomic I ever actually bothered to read. Absolutely fantastic.

And it's over. Well, it was quite an adventure while it lasted.

Oh man, I was at least hoping for some quick good-byes from Ganesh and Bone Claw Mother, and some comedic banter with Sukra, plus maybe an epilogue of Digger actually making it home.

I have a feeling that Digger might not get home as quickly as she's hoping. This does seem like one of those 'The adventure goes on' sort of endings.

When I opened the page today, I was thinking "maybe the comic isn't going to end so soon after all; maybe we'll follow Digger on a more-or-less adventurous journey home".

And then... THE END.

It will leave a gap in my life, that's for sure. One of the best webcomics I've read.

You know you've been reading a great work when, no matter how good an ending it was, you still feel a tinge of sorrow when there's no more of it to read. Sigh.

It's been a great ride, and I'm happy to have been along on it.

Maybe she did have more adventures going home.

But that's another story, after all.

This...this is good for me. I'm good with this ending.

It's a good end to a great run.

I want a version I can flip through.

For some reason, I'm kind of underwhelmed. I mean, if I were reading this in a couple of sittings through the archive or print version, this ending would've been perfect. But having caught up with it about two years ago, it just feels...wrong to be over like this.

Of course, this is entirely the fault of how I read it and not with the story itself. Just wanted to get it off my chest.
