I dunno, 3 also had references to Nanjo and I kinda suspect that 1/2/if took place in a separate continuity as well.
In addition 5's villains are so far reaching in their plots that I'd suspect that the Shadow Operatives and the Investigation Team would've noticed even thought they didn't have direct contact with the Metaverse. Especially Naoto and apparently Chie are cops by now, and Strikers took the thieves all around Japan while having plot threads that involved the police.
Than again the Thieves did visit that Hot Spring from 3, plus the original plans for Strikers was apparently supposed to be a 3 way crossover a la Q2 (OTOH that they aborted that plans does itself raise implications relevant to my inquiry)
The second point falls in line with Superman Stays Out of Gotham. Sure, maybe they could interfere with things, but that would possibly take away with dramatic tension.
You can literally buy a Risette poster in 5
Also Akechi is called the 2nd Detective Prince

Bewitching EyesSo yeah. Still really enjoying Royal. Just finished Madarame's Palace leading to what might low-key be my favorite scene in the game: Yusuke leaving "Sayuri" at Leblanc and talking to Sojiro.
The scene just inordinately enhances the game to me because it makes the characters seem like... characters. That exist when the MC isn't in the frame. Without exaggeration, I cannot remember in single scene from P4 without Narukami. I could be, you know, wrong but I partially feel like that would still be a failure of the game since I've played it more times than I can count but can't think of anything off-hand.
Also I really like both Sojiro and Yusuke.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Just finished the second jail in P 5 S.
I overall really like it so far, but here's a second round of my thoughts on the matter.
-Yeah, the game isn't going to win any wards from diverging from any formula anytime soon. the First jail reused the sin of Lust and gravitated towards Ann, the second one reuses Vanity and gravitated around Yusuke. I can see where the rest of the game is going to go.
-So far, while the game has made a really convincing attempt to integrate a lot of the persona battle mechanics, I'm a bit disappointed by how little of the life sim aspects made it in. While it does make the game a lot more fast-paced, I regret that so far nothing that looks like confidents have made an appearance, as I feel that we could use sometimes not doing everything with just the base gang.
-That being said : I actually really like retreading the previous sins and giving back the focus to individual members of the group. The focus given to Yusuke and Ann's personnal stake in knocking some sense into the jail monarch elevated both of those from "yup, it's more of the same" to "it manages to tickle the emotionnal chord" and it does some good work to let the characters take front stage once more, and coupled with the fact they're not the victims this time, and the fast pace of the game, it really feels like they're proactive in trying to redeem the villains they antagonize. It's a very nice touch for people who like the cast of p5 but felt they didn't got enough focus.
-For that matter, having the whole gang from the start means Haru actually gets some screentime. Obviously she's rather quiet during the discussions but she chimes in commonly enough that you don't feel like the writers forgot she's there, and I hope her jail will avoid the problem of the original p5 of morgana hijacking her arc.
-I'd be mad at the prospect that ryuji likely isn't going to have an orc of his own considering the structure of the game but considering he already had the most visible growth in royale, royale together with p5s make for a really great extension of the stories of the cast of p5 not named joker, and it's a really good thing in my book.
-I like the combat a lot more through the second jail ! It felt like I started getting a hang of the combat and I had a lot less problems with b/circle being used for too many things (the fact I stopped playing Joker and spamming triangle triangle circle square helps), and I started liking playing the other characters a lot more ! So yeah, @Chariot, I honestly think things get better moving forward.
-Tying in to my last point, one final objection I'd have to the reviewer's impression of "there's no reason to play anyone else other than joker because wild card is broken", yeah but... joker's base playstyle is kinda boring ? and it doesn't seem to have the huge potential of snowballing once you get a hang of his game mechanics the way the others do ?
I used to have a lot of trouble playing pretty much anyone else but other the jail most of the characters grew on me. Yusuke's my favorite, he becomes really strong once you get a glimpse of what you're doing, and pulling accidental perfect counters will never not be funny. Ryuji's Charge-based playstyle is quite unconventionnal at first, but it really rewards you for committing to it, and his kit is balanced around patching the most obvious issues with such a playstyle.
Makoto's fun if a bit erratic, Haru is SPEEEEEEN TO WIIIIIIIN, which is a joy, and haru and ryuji's more slow-paced moves is great to actually get a hang of the combo mechanics and actually give some thoguht to what you're going to do next rather than mindlessly mashing.
And ultimately, yes joker is broken because the wild card is broken, but... just let the AI play him ? make sure he's using the appropriate persona for the job, but... i've first tried the second jail ruler playing almost exlucsively as yusuke, despite struggling immensely more on the first ruler, so I really think that past the early game, you don't HAVE to play joker if you want to try the others out, and I find most of the others consistently more fun to play.
So yeah, it's P 5 S. It doesn't really have the mad pull P5 has with the kamoshida arc and the vibe of the game. It doesn't have royale's amazing epilogue. But it's more of p5 in a good day, with a writing that nails the comedy (I really mean it) and some good emotionnal scenes, and it's pretty fun to play as a muso. It's not for everyone, but if you want more of p5, buy it. It's good.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."what doesn't, exactly ? I'm unsure which part of the post you're referring to.
And yeah, I've made more progress and there's actually a couple divergences, but i'm guessing that's as far as it'll get.
I'm also kinda miffed at Ichinose, because she sets all "true villain all along" flags and she's literally rule 63 Takuto (which is itself one giant flag). I mean, if you have to copy something from Royale, you're doing right in copying the best, but I'd rather had strikers embrace it wasn't ALSO royale and let both be their own thing.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."She's really more discount Takuto rather than R63. Same way the Final Boss is a Discount You-Know-Who who actually knew what he was doing despite the egomania.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.
Yeah, I did the maths and figured "there's no way i'm wrong (this game doesn't do subtletly) and at this point i've made my mind, might as well get a look at the characters page of the game on this site" and what a surprise, I'm not wrong.
Discount takuto sounds about right, since she doesn't have the greatest quality that takuto was for the most part just a regular dude trying his hardest to do the right thing who bumbled his way into getting the throne of god of control handed to him, which made him far more human than having actually planed to get there

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I have a question. Does ATLUS have the rights to use Sophie and Zenkichi in future games? I ask because I'm starting to suspect that Japanese companies don't like to use the characters they don't own or create themselves (with few and far between exceptions such as DBZ and crossovers), and I know the characters debuting in strikers were made by Koei, not ATLUS.
Likewise I want to ask if characters like Labrys and Sho were owned by Arc System Works for the same reason? And if this was alsoa factor in why we haven't see the P1-2 casts or their Personae in recent games.

The thing is, I'm asking more because of the absence of the P2 group (including he P1 group) within the crossovers and also becuase Strikers's additions seem to had been written out by the end (Zenkichi returning to the force, Sophia traveling with Ichinose) with an implication of them possibility returning later that may or may not be followed up on (And I bring this up because while not a crossover, they were apparently designed by Koei, not ATLUS). Also, I think within-company crossovers tend to have less legal red tape than intra-company ones (Take a good look at N 1 S titles for example or for a more germane one, the Persona Q games)

Ryuji's just here to kick ass with his bros and have a good time and I can appreciate that
Bewitching EyesSeems a waste to create these characters only to never use them again (Particularly galling with the Persona 1 and 2 Duology characters, as they are both created and owned by Atlus.), especially given some of them are cooler than some of the regular characters.
Sanity is the Lie, there is only Madness.Well P1 and P2 IS is in a completely different continuity from P2 EP and beyond. We hear about the P2 EP cast via the TV in P3 but there really isnt much of a place for them in P3+, not to mention different director and team for P3+.
Unlike... P3 though, everything that happened in all the other games stems from Nyx... abandoning that and well the Shadow Operatives is just a plot hole of rather epic proportions. Especially when Zenkichi's role in P 5 S's in the plot starting out actually seems tailor made for like Dojima.
