It would be kind of interesting to see a hotsprings/bath scene leading to actual development. Like someone changing a sign as a mean prank leading to finding out about scars or something one party is self conscious about.
But when I thought about it some more that's kind of painting over the issue, and it would be much better to just remove the whole scene without trying to get tricky about it.
Ah the classic hallmarks of hotspring scene.
The girls touching each other's breasts out loud, a guy trying to peep everytime using the exact same line as justification ("Its a man's duty to check this out", word for word that line always), & someone getting hurt (always the guy).
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."For added hilarity they do talk about a girl (Sophie) but their discussion had nothing to do with her body.
They just talked about what a great and strong person is.
Meanwhile the girls are just...... engaging in skin-ship I guess.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."So I'ma assume the guys didn't actually peep, just like the last two times (where the entire thing is a misunderstanding that never gets cleared up at all, and they suffer for it).
The usual bullshit.
One Strip! One Strip!Trails in the Sky has a rare non-pervy hot spring, but in that case, you're firmly in the head of the female protagonist who's too embarrassed to check on her crush. The inevitable seeing your crush in a towel scene occurs, but the focus is less on seeing any naughty bits on chibi sprites, and more how exaggerated your protagonist's surprise is. And even then, her overreaction doesn't have her hit anyone.
Trails usually avoids Persona’s version of the Hot Springs Episode. The only one I recall that comes close is one in Cold Steel 2, and that’s more Rean being a dumbass and barging in on the girls the second he heard someone scream.
Mind you, it does have some other problems...

Oh God! Natural light! The best use of the trope is easily in Tales of Berseria where the hot spring have body swapping properties, so the males and females all swap bodies and one of the female protagonists has a freak out over one of the boys in her body.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.HERE'S the dumb scene:
Everything wrong with it:
Unlike the previous games, the thieves don't have a character who's gimmick is that he's very pervy. At worst, Ryuji still knows where to draw the line.
Why didn't Joker just say that someone's in here?
Makoto, you know that Ryuji is a victim of physical abuse right? Fuck at least in the original game when Ryuji was beaten up by the girls, there was at least the excuse that they were upset at his nonchalantness about his possible death. But this... why?
Why can Makoto do a solo all out attack? And shouldn't her towel fly off doing it?
Logically speaking, why does the bond meter go up for this? Logically speaking, viewing your male friends as creepers should worsen the bond.
And of course, the game will continue as if this never happened. No apology or even anger from the girls. No resentment from the boys. So they don't come off as "real" people. They come off as cartoon characters.
"They come off as cartoon characters"
...Because they are?
I know that people can get attached to them, and I don't like the scene either, but at the end of the day, they aren't real people, so I don't really have any stake in it.

Watch SymphogearWe've been complaining about the same scene since 2008, I think its time we've moved on. It sucks, we hate it. Nothing else really needs to be said that hasn't already been said.
Interestingly, this game wasn't directed by Hashino, so you can't even blame him for that scene this time.

Because it makes the characters far more hyperbolic and insane than it should be given the situation at hand.
Look at it this way, no one's having a problem with the scene where Ryuji accidentally orders a gold bar despite THAT situation being far more outlandish. Because they're still reacting to the situation properly at hand without sudden change in personality.

I’m starting to think all these guys are secretly masochists because they never make a point of physically defending themselves.
Especially in this case. Ann is not a strong physical fighter and while Makoto is a brawler, so is Ryuji so it’s just stupid how how they all allow this.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

Come on, you didn't think they wouldn't do it would you.
The fact that they saved it for later feels like a blatant bait.
