Today, I took on the most difficult enemy in 5; the ridiculously long series of cutscenes that play when you finally catch up to the In Media Res. It took me more than an hour, and I fast forwarded through parts of it. I get that this kind of elaborate scheme is part of Heist stories, but when the infodump explaining the plan takes longer than the actual execution of the plan, maybe you've gone overboard.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut. That's a large problem with 5 in general. A large chunk of the plot and twists are overexplained. Even more so than Golden, 5's base campaign really needed and edit pass, the script constantly repeats itself about the major themes, gags, and mental distortions. The game kinda thinks it's got more to say than it actually does.
It doesn't help that the overexplanation goes hand in hand with underwriting the villains.
Akechi, talking in-person to Shido with nothing to assure complete privacy: "Hey, remember when I did [x plot-relevant and also massively illegal and evil thing that you know about because you told me to do it]?”
The whole carefully-planned-out conspiracy would have been destroyed if there were someone outside the door. Or even passing by, if they were close enough.

So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrI mean, he was planning to kill Akechi himself once they were done (and I suspect Shido had a sniper ready to take the kid out well before he could think of taking a trip to the Metaverse as well), so Shido is very big on cleaning up those loose ends, as Sae's boss (who likely had no real intention of betraying him) can attest.
I wonder if Shido was searching for ways to enter the meta verse himself. The biggest drawback to his plan is that he had to entirely rely on others for it to work. If he could figure out how to enter the Metaverse (though obviously without gaining a persona since he already had a palace), then he'd be bulletproof.
One Strip! One Strip!
What ? Of course he can. You don't need to infiltrate the metaverse to order a sniper to press a trigger. Considering he even had mental defenses set up specifically to counter akechi, he probably thought of this long ago.
Actually, gaining a persona would probably have made him entirely bulletproof. Good luck changing the heart of someone who doesn't has a shadow (Yes, I know Takuto says hi but he 's a very special exception who has good reasons for bending so many rules in the first place) AND would have allowed him to go after targets himself, which considering how his shadow behaves, is a thing shido would probably be keener on that he lets on. The fact his palace has this experiments of merging shadows with cognitive beings so they can actually fight back clearly indicates he was trying to achieve stuff, it just wasn't up to work when the thieves moved on the offense.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."....which makes me think that Akechi's plan might have worked.
After all, how many years would it take for Shido to figure out a way to really use the Meta-verse without a middle man? Probably longer than it would take him to take over, and we know that was when Akechi was gonna plunge the proverbial knife in.
Unless Shido was farther along than we thought (and considering they were apparently using it to keep people from registering that Shido actually confessed), he might have been).
Eh, screw them both.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Remember, Shido's long term plans also involved using the Metaverse on other country's leaders and other powerful figures to make Japan and by extension, HIM great again.
EDIT: I mean he can't kill Akechi yet, because he's too useful at this stage.

Nah, people not registering Shido confessed was just Yaldy flexing his reality-bending muscles. It's unclear how much the conspiracy knew who they were getting this power from, but it wasn't their doing.
So I think I'm finally gonna do my complete Fe MC run of P 3 P but I'm curious about something, IIRC you can save Shinji here but even though he stays alive he isn't a full on party member? You just play with him the same limited amount of time as before?
Just thinking ahead to who my final party will be. Mitsuru, like Yukiko, is the best and therefore will stay a a permanent fixture in my party. Not sure about the other two spots.

@ convoluted heist movie plots: You know, I watched Ocean's 11 the other day, and now I'm wondering if the scene where the eponymous band of thieves switch the tape of their raid on the Big Bad's vault with a fake showing them escaping a different way than they actually did, thus sending him on a wild goose chase was an at least partial inspiration for the "switch the real and cognitive world without the bad guys noticing" bit from P5.
