5 and Royal Also lets you basically Stea-er I mean, borrow persona's from other protags, so...
Watch Symphogear
and they're all busted
*remembers the sheer damage of izanagi-no-okami picaro and shudders*
even kaguya, one of the lowest level protag personas, remains stupid useful even into the end of the game thanks to innate null bless/curse, learning repel phys (and having a trait to triple counter damage), and having the most powerful bless skill available.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeA protag-persona that is balanced in the exact same way as the other teammates's persona with a passive to gain exp regardless of whether or not it's used in combat could probably work. It kinda feels like a holdover from older persona games where the 1 character = 1 element dynamic was less preponderent - Shinjiro and Aigis used no elements, two different people were using Agi skills (and orpheus would have made this three), and I don't think anyone was really specialized in bless skills. arsene on the other hand is built on the exact same template every other persona from the protags uses but it stops learning skills immediately anyway.
Royale sorta adds insult to injury in that even Raoul is spectacularly unremarkable as a late-game persona despite being Arsene's final form. Orpheus might have been terrible but Messiah and orpheus Telos were good enough to warrant being used.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."And isnt even as good as the other third tiers are.
At most forcing sleep on mobs is his only grace.
But it does allow Satanel to be the cooler persoba so
in my book.
Modern Arsene sucks. Praise Gnostic Lucifer.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. So guess who just got done with an LP of Persona 1, finally experiencing it at long last? I really liked the story and characters for the most part (though Nanjo could get grating) but just from the commentary I could tell that the... not-very-good reviews of the gameplay are legit - particular standouts being the bizarre EXP system which is dependent on how much damage each character does, making it doubly hard to get your weaker dudes up to snuff, and the moment where an extremely shoehorned Your Princess Is in Another Castle! moment forces you to go through a very long dungeon twice.
What especially surprised me was how minor Igor and the Velvet denizens are, really having no more impact on the actual story than a generic shopkeeper; is it in 2 where they first become legitimately important? As mentioned I liked the story and lore a lot; hews a good bit closer to mainline SMT than Hashino-era Persona but definitely has some themes and motifs that persist in the series, particularly the contrast between reality and an illusory ideal.
It was pretty cool that P1 examined the idea of actually becoming godlike. Kandori gets everything he wants with no effort on his part and... he absolutely hates it. He's despondent and politely asks the heroes to kill him because with his infinite power he can't even fathom a reason to be alive anymore.
But then Nanjo runs his mouth off, as he is want to do, so Kandori becomes Super Guido.
The Maki examination stuff is also neat, though that really only pays off once you have the bigger picture. But yeah, 1 has some great stuff in its own right. I really miss 1 and 2, where there wasn't so much RPG larping going on. In those games, you got guns to do real damage against real demons attacking real people. 5 kinda loses some of its sting when half the Palace stuff is just happening in someone's head and you use toys and larp costumes to get it done. Makes Persona-empowered heroes more important IMO when they're more like street superheroes saving real civilians.
Someone like Maki would completely shatter the scale of a modern Persona if she weren't a final boss. It's not just making a city-sized Palace of her own either, she has several versions of her mind running around, and she's able to convince almost everyone inside that this was always how the world worked. And she's able to bring in regular humans too.
So Atlus has made a Creator page on Steam. I wouldn't get my hopes up too much for this but I can't imagine they would do that if they weren't planning on releasing more than one or two things. P 4 G is being rumored but honestly Id only really want the Persona 2 ports, P3 and Royal. I would love for ports of other SMT games as well but that might be too much to hope for.
Guess this more or less confirms it, Golden and P3 are coming to Steam

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.

I mean, if they can balance other party members' persona to be useful for the whole game, why not the protagonists? And there's no reason why you couldn't have the starter persona in addition to all your normal persona slots instead of permanently taking up a slot.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
