Yusuke's excuse for being in Hawaii instead of LA is total bullshit. It doesn't rain here in California, let alone storm hard enough to prevent flights from landing. Especially in September.

Clearly some God was behind it. Don't underestimate the American Gods as Japans deities can attest during WWII.

The whole Hawaii sequence was pointless. I know people complain a lot about the humor scenes in 4, but 5s tendency to set up such scenes only to have them end on a completely dour note just makes the story harder to get through.

[up][up][up] That bugged me as well. It's a byproduct of him not being a Shujin student, which was seemed more like an inconvenience.

I feel like it's an excuse to get the Thieves to not be around for Principal Eggman's death.

[up] Hypothetically, if the Thieves were still in Japan at the time, what exactly could they have done?

None of them really could have prevented or even predicted his death.

That would still happen even if Yusuke had gone to LA like he was supposed to. And no one would have been able to prevent that death regardless.

@Rodimus: Nah. Too much like Brother and Sister to me for it to work.

So are Joker and Futaba but they're still allowed to date.

Spread the pseudo incest to the whole gang.

[up] I never really bought that Joker and Futaba are like siblings because they just met, while Ryuji and Ann had known each other since middle school.

I don't know how anyone walked away from the ending of P5, seeing Sojiro quietly sobbing as Joker walks out the door the last time, and not think there was a paternal emotional connection there.

Also you can call Futaba your sister.

Thats semantics.

Futaba has also never seen Joker as her brother, but as her Key Item (Literally).

[up][up] But you can also pick the other option.

Yes Sojiro does have strong paternal instincts to Joker but that's not adopted father level. Maybe a couple of more years it may grow into that, but for now it's just a strong paternal instinct i see, not an adopted father.

So no, in my eyes, Joker and Futuba aren't like siblings because they literally just met in the game while Ryuji and Ann knew each other for years. Besides is Sojiro's views going to affect how Joker and Futaba see each other? I think not.

Just so we're clear, we're downplaying the obvious father/son dynamic between Sojiro and Joker because ???

Sojiro: [to Joker] You know, I really just wanted to have you help out at the store. But you showed me so much more... You showed me I have a family I have to protect. Not just Futaba. But you too. I may not always be reliable, but feel free to come to me if anything happens. I'll be there for you... as family.

I think it's a massive stretch to call Joker x Futaba pseudo incest. You don't even know of her existence for several months (so no sibling affection to develop) and Sojiro isn't you dad.

But then again she's too precious and smol to date so what do I know.

The Futaba ship definitely panders to the little sister crowd, let's not mince words here. You don't need actual incest for that when Futaba hits all the other relevant trope beats.

#58049: May 17th 2020 at 10:15:36 AM

Ann and Ryuji knew each other, but how much interaction between them prior to the game is unclear.

The relationship between Joker and Futaba is pretty much up to the player, but it's weird treating it as if they can't develop sibling like relationship as opposed to a romantic one. Heck, some people are into the "little sister" thing.[nja]

My real issue with Joker x Futaba isn't anything to do with the technicalities if Sojiro is really a father figure which would actually make Futaba a sort of adopted sister. The issue is that Futaba has serious mental and emotional issues and sees Joker (and to a lesser extent the rest of the Phantom Thieves) as a savior and a lifeline. In short, Futaba is emotionally dependant on Joker, which is not a healthy foundation for a romantic relationship. "Don't date Futaba, she's basically your baby sister" is shorthand for that, more or less.

Honestly the only two romance options that aren't uncomfortable to a greater or lesser extent because of stuff like that (or, you know, because they're grown-ass adults and Joker is in high school) are Makoto and Hifumi.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
