"to a lesser degree"
Also the only times I remember it coming in during the story is the unfortunate bit with Yusuke and Shido's Palace, and the latter ended up making it pointless (which in all fairness ends up being the case with the others as well).

During the investigation into Kaneshiro, Ann gets information on his scheme from some of his victims, though naturally Joker ends up doing most of the work
aaaaalso she does the sexy distraction thing in battles
Bewitching EyesI'm sure Haru is meant to be the money in the same way that Makoto is meant to be the strategist.
It's what they do in the story, but functionally Joker is the money and the brains and the cat burgler and the information getter because that's how the game works.
Really, the only Thieves who actually do their stated jobs are Morgana (and even then Joker is the one driving him, mostly); Futaba (because hacking isn't a gameplay mechanic), and Ryuji (because his job is fighting)
Bewitching Eyesmaking up calling cards isn't gameplay either so Yusuke also does his job.
Makoto is also responsible for a good part for the plan to outsmart akechi so it at least works a bit in the manner than the story actually lets her plan for things Joker doesn't come up with sometimes, even though joker is indeed the strategist for most intents and purposes in that he's the one who comes up with all the logistics for palaces.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."She's also the one who came up with the plan for giving Kaneshiro the calling card, even if she just took Ryuji's original idea and scaled it up.
One Strip! One Strip!I admit I've never heard of these roles for picaresque characters before. The Money and such. I get why the game can't be structure that way, but imagining how we'd handled it is fun.
- Joker would be the Information Gatherer, as it would involved the most legwork and he's the leader to begin with so he needs to determine which targets they go after.
- Ryuji the Muscle, self-explanatory
- Morgana the Getaway Driver, again self-explanatory.
- Ann the Cat burgler, as I'd have her be the one who learns the layouts of the palaces en route to the Treasure, and steals the treasure while the bosses are fought.
- Yusuke would still make the Calling Cards
- Makoto would still be the brains. Putting together Joker's and Ann's information to plan the actual theft out.
- Futaba hacks on Joker or Makoto's command.
- Haru would fund the weapons and armor. She's also be the reason we get higher quality items to buy.
Does Ann’s role in that prevent her from actually participating in boss fights, or am I misinterpreting that?
Oh God! Natural light!A friend of mine, who is borderline obsessed with her I'll admit, had a pretty emotional reaction to playing her dungeon in Royal all over again.
Its interesting to think about the roles of the thieves. Because unlike in P4, they aren't just a bunch of friends who are hanging out, they have an actual operation going on.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I'm reminded of the Phantom Lords discussion about what role each of the Thieves would have in a dictatorship.
Joker's obviously head honcho, Morgana's some kind of messenger or pet, Ryuji runs the secret police, Yusuke & Ann would be propaganda machines, Makoto an Iron Lady politician, Haru controls the business sector, & Goro would be an assassin.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The "Ryuji keeps yelling about being a Phantom Thief lol" meme always irritated me. They all do it — especially since they hold their secret Phantom Thief planning meetings in public places — it's just that Ryuji is the only one who gets called out for it so the game can go "lol Ryuji is dumb isn't that cute". It's annoying.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Having the conversations in a public place isn't great, but sometimes I think people overstate how much a passerby would catch. Even more so when most wouldn't be paying them any attention in the first place.
Also, Ryuji tends to get more flack due to the recording, the Perfect Phone Call, and the bit at the sushi place.

So, I started thinking about something that bothered me (but not in a bad way) about P5:
How does Wakaba seem to know so much about the Metaverse? The woman has a impressively deep understanding of the Metaverse for someone who never saw it (and had no way to reach it).
I'm still kinda wondering about it.
One Strip! One Strip!

Ann does have a role on the team, she's the sexy distraction. Even if she's not very good at it.
Yusuke designs and draws up the calling cards, but well...
Haru and Yusuke are just... there. Even Sae's wild Confidant accusations boil down to 'You knew someone close to Madarame/Okumura!'
ED: I mean, Haru's only job with the Thieves was getting past one door in Okumura's Palace. That's it.
