It's certainly not a universal opinion, but the general consensus is that Marie wasn't integrated very well into the original Persona 4 narrative, hence why people feel she's out of place.
Kasumi, by comparison, is mostly Out of Focus during the original narrative outside of bits and pieces to characterize her and saves all of her character arc for the post-game dungeon where she's the actual main focus.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.God, the relationships in 5 are just awful sometimes. You know what's fun, kids? Having sex with your teacher! Or, if that's not for you, how about your doctor instead? But only if they're women, because being gay would be inappropriate.

Bewitching EyesMary-Sue is in danger of becoming a meaningless term (if it isn't already) simply because of how overused it is; I find that any character that gets a push, if it isn't one the viewer favours, get labelled a Mary-Sue, especially if they're female. I feel like this is doubly true for new characters, they seem to get held to harsher standards than original cast members.
If Atlus had gone ahead and tried to incorporate Kasumi into the Phantom Thieves during the main story she would have been labelled a Mary-Sue regardless of whether she was or not. I'm sure her recruitment arc would have been held up as proof of her being forced down our throats regardless of well done it was, or how much screen-time she gets in comparison to other characters.
Sorry about that, needed to get that off my chest.
Well...Akechi is the closest thing you're gonna get to a Gay Option soooo.

And Kawakami could be my Maid Mommy.
I'm Poly, so I'd make it work. Somehow.
Watch SymphogearLooking over it again, I am shocked Jello Apocalypse did not take the opportunity to poke fun at Morgana forcing you to sleep. I guess that meme is dead, thank god.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Morgana doesn't make you go to sleep as often in Royal.
Royal is literally the best attempt at a Remake of a game in the series so far, easily beating out FES or Golden.
Watch SymphogearConsidering how often these games are dripping with Homoeroticism via pretty boys getting way too attached to each other, the irony of them refusing to give you a flat out Gay Option is heavy.
...excuse me. I just watched a clip of that new soldier from Final Fantasy VII Remake, and he's flirting with Cloud so hard it's impossible to ignore.
One Strip! One Strip!
Persona 5 was originally meant to be a PS 3 only game.
It was crossplatform because of delays, and aside from minor load times differences, it didn't take advantage of the PS 4 that much.
Royal is essentially P5 taking advantage of the console it was released on as an afterthought.

@Asterism: To your post in the Three Houses spoiler theead: I figure something like Baal Zebul due to the trend of half the Phantom Thieves personas being allied to chaos at some point.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.
