#BreakFreePersona is trending on Twitter.
Let's get Persona on diferent consoles and not just P5 on Switch.
Wait so how are they going to end those scenes? Are they just going to fade to black?
Did they change Lala Escargot too? Hopefully not. It would be nice if they let Ren crossdress while working at the crossroads bar though. PQ 2 seemed to want to imply that Ren might be into that.
This move is essentially a confirmation of something we already knew, that Atlus USA does care about these things and wants to try and mitigate the damage. As for Atlus Japan, well the last sign we had of these matters was Catherine Full Body which was criticized for the same insensitivity that previous games showed.
At this point there is a decent chance they might be vaguely aware westerners have a problem with the content in their games, but whether this means that Atlus JP will try to be more delicate with these issues in the future is something that remains to be seen. Them greenlighting this doesn't necessarily mean anything more than "I don't really get it, but fine, just let our US branch do whatever they can to make them happy" which wouldn't really result on any change on their part. And as I said while it's good that Atlus USA cares about these issues, all this does is mask the homophobia of the original product which is still intact and japanese LGBT+ people still have to deal with it which isn't really an ideal situation.
From my perspective, the best case scenario is that going forward we have an absence of particularly egregious homophobia but not necessarily a presence of positive LGBT+ representation.
For those who haven't seen them, here are the interview snippets.
There were certain things in Persona 3, 4 and 5, especially now in 2020, where there would be a lot of talk about the things in those games. As a localization manager, I really cannot do too much about what has already made it into the game.
But in Persona 5, there were a few NPCs that, while we were doing the localization, our team members felt a little bit of awkwardness about when working on it. And with Royal, we were determined to see if we could do something about it at least localization-wise. On our end, it took a lot of effort consulting not just the production department, but talking with our marketing, and how they would feel about it if we changed how things were in Persona 5 to this new way—what would the public reception be, what the company would think, whether it would be okay if we do make the change.
Ultimately for Royal, we did go with it and I think we're pretty happy with what it is. It's not a significant change, but I think there's enough of a change that people who weren't comfortable going through that part in Persona 5 would feel better this time around.
Are you able to say exactly what it is? What part of the game that you were referring to?
So basically, I'm just going to say it right now there are these two gay men who hit on Ryuji. I think the community had a very strong response to that, and you saw that, and that was definitely altered for Royal.
Can you expand on how that was changed?
Unfortunately, those characters were portrayed [as] more like predatory. In Royal—I don't want to say we made it mild—but we made it [as if they're] being very strong enthusiasts for something they like doing. But it's not like they're on the hunt for some young boys or anything.

Atlus has disabled the PS4 and Switch sharing functions during the final part of 5: Strikers.
Which means I won't be able to stream them using PS 4 either.

So rather predictably, Atlus USA changing the content in Royal has caused a stir in the community.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. The gays just being very enthusiasts about something and dragging ryuji along but otherwise harmless is geniunely funny to me and as such is closer to the intended spirit of the scene - lighthearted comedy - which makes it intrinsically more faithful to the idea of the story than the original scene itself.
Eh. Besides the fact that it doesn't really work that way I don't think a couple of problematic scenes are worth condamning the series to obscurity.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."These shitstorms pop up in everything nowadays. I've gotten numb to it. Also the crowd that complain about this are much smaller than they used to be.
I don't typically like censorship but it's so minor that I'm like who cares. I had the same reaction to a JRPG I played years ago called Mugen Soul Z. It's a positively shameless fanservice game and they censored out some gratuitous bathing minigame for Western releases. My opinion now is the same as it was then - "oh well."
It helps that censoring homophobic jokes is much more justified than censoring sexuality, in my view. And I don't even have a problem with tasteless, offensive jokes if the person making them has proven their good intentions. Persona has done quite the opposite.

So I heard the bosses are pretty meaty, not taking a character who has the skills to beat said boss will drag out the fight way longer than it already will be. Even the non dungeon bosses in Scramble like Cerberus or Bicorn will easily last some time.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.

Hashino is at atlus, he's at Studio zero, which doesn't even work on Persona in the first place. He's still working on that Larping game atlus announced a while ago.
