And the funny thing is they only stuck gold by experimenting with a couple spin-offs. tongue

I don't really have a problem with teen protagonists or pocket dimensions, it's just that I'm not super excited over the exact same formula a fourth time.

Maybe something more like Persona 3, where adults are involved but none of them have personas, so it's up to the kids to do the heavy lifting. Maybe even something full-on X-Men style with an Extranormal Institute so they're not in normal school at all.

Huh, in the Q2 ending Akechi doesn't want to go back to the real world

Not surprised really.

He goes full asshole during his boss fight, but it's also hinted he genuinely did like Joker and the others (he did briefly try to convince Shido to not harm the others when they thought Joker was dead).

Going back means going back to who and what he really is, and with time to really dwell on it, you can't blame him for thinking fuck that.

Fortunately, he does go back, and gets what he deserves. Failure and death.

Once again, wokka wokka!

I'm watching letsplays of Q2.

My... GOD this game is dense! Like each ep is 45 minutes long, I'm on the fourth ep, and we STILL haven't seen any of the main cast from Persona 3 and 4! I mean what the hell ... they're trying to make another Persona game!! I thought it was just a diet-level side quest.

Has less flanderization than PQ I've heard.

That is unironically the most worthwhile thing to ever spawn from the Q games.

That had more P1 and 2 in one minute thirty seconds than any official Atlus thing has in a decade.

The game is like 60 hours long. I mean, it is a side quest, but it's a side quest stretched out for 60 hours. You don't meet a new game's cast until you reach a new dungeon. You get the P3 cast a little less than halfway through the game.

Anyway, yeah, Akechi occupies an interesting position in this game. Timeline-wise the P5 cast has to be in the middle of Sae's dungeon, so it's taking place right when both sides are plotting against each other, yet now they're forced to go through this funtime "best buddies forever" crossover while putting their real lives on the backburner.

I kind of wish they did more with that though.

Conversely, I really like what they did with the Fem C, using her unusual position to reinforce the themes the game was going for. She really is an outsider, alone in a world where everyone else knows each other, and she's the only one who really will never meet the others again, memory loss or otherwise. It's sort of an interesting direction to take her. It really helps that she's got such a strong personality too. I'd almost wish she were the main character of this game if not for the fact that that'd turn her into a silent protagonist.

Has less flanderization than PQ I've heard.

It starts out stronger, but by the time you get the full casts back it's back in full flanders territory. I don't think Akihiko manages to get through a single conversation without bringing up protein.

Honestly, I don't really care if they are flanderized or not. Spinoff's tend to have different writing staff then mainline titles, so I don't really mind it much.

I think I've said this already but I wish they'd do an original story with a new cast in PQ. The most interesting parts of these games has twice now been the original material and I don't think Persona as a series is best suited for reusing cast members.

Alihiko being a fitness protein junkie who fights actual bears is an improvement over....whatever he was supposed to be in P3.

Akihiko had a personality in P3?

Aki's a fitness protein junkie because his main hangup is he was unable to save his sister when she died in a fire. He wants to be strong so he can protect people. There were elements of this in the original game, like his behaviour during Op Babe Hunt, and the fact that Mitsuru bascly has to physically restrain him after he gets injured by the Magician.

Also since Arena he's been consistently characterised as an idiot, when he was one of the smarter characters in the original game.

The P5 cast are the best in Q2, btw. They manage to almost completely avoid the Flanders ray.

I mean he fought bears I'm not really sure he does it solely for that reason anymore.

P3 Akihiko was a Big Man on Campus who basically didn't notice how popular he was, because his attention was focused inward on self-improvement rather than outward on what others thought of him. He was the star (captain?) of the school boxing team, smart and focused enough to get good grades, pretty much Mitsuru's only close friend (Mitsuru being just about the only person at school more popular than him), and rocks a suit as casual wear (though he has trouble keeping the jacket on). He has fangirls, and finds them annoying because they're distracting and he's smart enough to recognize that they're not really swooning over him, but rather the mystique that's been built up around him. He's also a Big Brother Mentor for the SEES second-years, particularly Junpei (who needs it more than the rest anyway).

Of course, Arena ditches most of that and turned him into a scarred, shirtless Wild Man who spends most of his time alone in the wilderness and fights bears for fun, which was weird. In P3 proper, he's also obsessed with training, not nutrition, so PQ switching that to protein is odd.
