As far as I can tell we do not have any specified area for a works page that needs a lot of attention. I have come across a few assorted works on the wiki that were in need of work. They needed work on the descriptions, Tropes, organization of the page etc.

I have asked a handful of people and so far everyone has said send it to the trope repair shop.

Do we have a more localized area for Works pages that are in need of attention or are just using the other assorted areas like TRS?

I know we have the wiki like pages for works needing this or that but they are clumsy and seem to be seldom viewed or considered.

I see a few issues with TRS as the place to put works.

  1. It's focus is obviously tropes and means works pages might get missed in the hustle.
  2. It kind of clutters the TRS pages a bit and might draw attention in the TRS for items in shop for work.
  3. It would be a good idea to localize works that need work in one location so we do not have to go hunting assorted wiki entries which are clumsy and low visibility to the rest of the fora and editors as a whole.
  4. A section for Works Repair would be visible on the forum and draw more attention as a whole thus exposing works that need help to more people who would be aware of the media and get more folks involved with works pages as whole.

Questions? Comments? Thoughts? Ideas?

Well I could see some use in it I fixed up the Paper Mario charecter sheet today because of a thread was made (needs to be locked btw) and usually any works page made in the repair shop gets ignored mostly (my split Negima got 2 posts and was no help what so ever).

One advantage to TRS (which could be applied to a hypothetical works-specific version) is that if you start a thread on the page, it creates not only a courtesy link in the thread itself, but puts a banner on the page in question drawing attention to the thread for discussing it.

True the tools for TRS are very handy and it would be very useful for works pages as well.

I believe that the thread creator thinks that there should be a separate subforum for works.

I disagree, since any problem pages get turned into TRS anyway (see: Doctor Who).

I don't know, the Ace Attorney split got far more action than most of the pages there. And half the tropes in there sink if there aren't people greatly invested in them. Getting Cheryl Blossom renamed to Third-Option Love Interest took me a great deal of time.

I tried to get the Negima page split (Negima main series and Neo which is a whole other set of tropes.) and 4 bumps I just gave up.

No one cared enough to disagree or agree with me or no one actually saw the thread.

^ That's not necessarily an indication that it was overlooked. Personally, I don't usually contribute to works pages discussions unless I'm familiar enough with the work to make intelligent contributions. Which is not the case with about 95% of the works that get brought up.

I saw the thread, but like Foxy Mod, I don't know anything about the series. I can't help with a split if I don't know anything about it.

I have seen works pages pop up then vanish into the pile and pop again and then get buried and usually stay buried. The reaction I got from TRS was make a media thread or send it to YKTTW

I am sorry but TRS is not working for the works pages. The folks in the TRS are not even interested in the works and they have reduced visibility compared to the all the tropes in shop.

Also it makes it hard to find those who are familiar with the work if its in the TRS they are not likely to go looking for it there.

Yes.

There are works that always need clean up, tweaking, or just lots of work in general.

There is no reliable way to make the pages visible enough to garner attention other then from stumbling on them and trying maybe fix a work your not familiar with or waiting and hoping for someone to find the discussion page or a thread that gets lost quickly in other locations to come help with it.

We have some wiki like pages that have lists of works that need repair and updating but they are poorly maintained and from what I can tell not many seem to not know really know they exist. There are some fairly old entries on those pages that need help.

We should put the same effort into maintaining works pages as we do tropes. Both are linked and important to the site as a whole.

Edit. Changed Seem know they exist to seem to not know. (what is with my head and hands not communicating today)

I do think work pages don't get enough attention in TRS.

However, I think this could be because people in TRS aren't familiar with the work in question, so they can't really contribute. Having a separate subforum wouldn't help with this.

If that's not the problem, then I'm all for it.

... is Hellsing really that obscure?

Anime in general isn't as popular as it seems on the wiki. It's supporters are just very vocal and often just attached to a couple of series. Then again, the just attached to a couple of series could be applied to a lot of tropers. I tend to know series more in general than in specific and I'd very rarely be much help on a work page.

Hmm. I guess if a Repair Shop shop item is made for a work, the event could show up on the troper's watchlist. That way, people who are interested in the work enough to track it will know the discussion is underway.

I don't think it needs the same tag though. A wrench icon at the top next to the discussion section would be better.

Why would we need a subforum. Just make a repair shop thread for the work. Everything else is in place.
