— TV Tropes Forum RPG Guide —

The TV Tropes Forum RPG zone is divided into 3 different zones, normal RPs usually have a thread in each of these.

  • Role Playing Singups: The first place to go in order to join a game or start your own. In this place the GMs post the basic settings, story and rules of the RPs and the players post their own characters and wait for approval to start posting in the game proper.
  • Role Playing Discussion: Where all the OC talk goes, like discussing character actions and a place to ask questions.
  • Role Playing: This zone is where the actual Role Playing takes place.

Please do refer to the Role Playing Rules for the guidelines on which this section of the Forum operates. Different R Ps have their own rules, though the ones outlined in the Role Playing Rules thread cover the basics of what is enforced here.

Um, Percy Jackson And The War Of The Gods is up, another RP, current status is active. If it's ok, would you mind adding it to the list?

This seems to be as good a place as any to post this, but if it isn't. I'm sorry. I've noticed there don't seem to be any active Star Wars R Ps around here, and I have an idea for a specific one I'd like to play (maybe not necessarily DM since I'm still fairly new to this and may not have the time, but hey, maybe I could help someone who is more experienced and learn a thing or two).

We would start either during or slightly before the events of A New Hope as ordinary Imperial officers, soldiers, or pilots (that is, no random Jedi or Force users shoehorned in beyond what would be appropriate for the setting). We can assume that things would proceed as they would in the movies, but the campaign would be open-ended with opportunities to become directly involved in certain events, potentially changing canon events dramatically. (Maybe the Battle of Yavin somehow never happens and the Death Star exists into the timeframe of The Empire Strikes Back, or our characters defect to the Rebellion and steal some glory from Luke Skywalker.)

I don't know, maybe this is too open ended to work, but I figure using existing canon sources as a default starting point might help a little with that.

Here's an idea that I don't think we've had: Harem RP

The game will have whatever amount of characters, perhaps at least four, since one harem shepherd and three haremettes are needed to make it the genre. Anyway, the story plays out like what we should usually expect from a visual novel. The players as haremettes will give the main player flags and events for them to go through. However, constant interaction with everyone is key so some RP-ers won't feel left out. NP Cs will probably have to be created with both the GM's and the RP-er's input.

All the haremettes are kind of like G Ms, and the real GM is the player that will go through each (or not) path.

Something like this; I'm not entirely sure if I said it correctly.

I'm not sure I understood all of this correctly, but I'm sure there was a harem RPG here. Something about all characters were -dere types.

Oh, I haven't bothered checking. Neither do I have the will to do so right now. Fate Zero is kind of taking a lot of my time away. But I'm just putting an idea here and just seeing who is interested, is all.

Infinite Paragon shut down A Game of Truths yesterday due to excessive inactivity, and had Madrugada lock all three of our threads. I've put up a communal discussion in the meantime for everyone interested to check out the game, previous player or newcomer.

Been thinking about starting up an RP based on Hunter X Hunter, only reason I haven't done so up until now is due to a lack of plot ideas (but then Hunter X Hunter is easily the sort of setting that could support a Wide-Open Sandbox or character-oriented RP).

One reason Hunter X Hunter would be very well-suited to a Forum RP would be its Nen system, which emphasises placing limits on abilities (or sacrificing things for said abilities) as well as having abilities be rooted in a character's background, which'd help discourage godmodding and make Personalities and Histories more important.

Another positive thing is how the series' setting could allow for a huge variety of characters, from Adventurer Archaeologists to Idol Singers to Supreme Chefs to Bounty Hunters to... well basically anyone trying to find or achieve anything rare or sought-after.

Still thinking about at which point I should start it though, whether:

  • At the beginning of a whole new Hunter Exam. This would have the advantage of giving characters space to interact and a unifying goal, plus any player dropping out could serve to enhance the RP rather than take away from it. Players could have the opportunity to create their own Exam stages and presiding Examiners.
  • With all characters as fully licensed Hunters, that way we can get to the real meat of the series sooner rather than later (namely the actual Hunting, but Nen especially).
  • Having these two ideas running simultaneously, if that'd be possible.

Though since I said I wanted to explore Nen in particular and figured this could work as a Sandbox RP, maybe the first option isn't such a good idea, unless you'd like to say otherwise.

Hey, I'd support it. Been a while since I've read Hiatus x Hiatus, but I liked what I read, and you raise some good points.

Maybe a bunch of licensed Hunters are getting together for a job? Or perhaps multiple groups are all after the same objective?

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

My opinion doesn't mean much obviously, but a Hunter X Hunter RP sounds pretty good.

I'm just putting this down before I forget.

Unless this is already being done, I haven't seen any crossover RP-s for Fate Stay Night. I think it would interesting to play as Kamina or Homura or something...

I don't think that I'd be the best kind of GM for this type of RP, so I'm just seeing who would be interested in this idea.

After getting no sign-ups in my Who Framed Roger Rabbit RP, I started thinking about another idea: a College RP... a la Community, the TV Show. With Arcs being Episodes, metahumor, parodies, and all that stuff.

I've been thinking about that Community-style RP ever since that one Dungeons & Dragons episode. I mean, sure, the idea may have to be changed for a RP to be based on Community to work, but I think it's a goody good idea.

i've made an AD&D based RPG set in a demonic plane of existence. i've tested it with friends and it's very fun but it all goes horribly wrong if more than 2 people are playing (plus DM). i want to post it on the signup forum but i know more than 2 people are bound to try and join. i've been thinking that i could play via private message in a facebook chat kinda way.

so does anyone think this is a good idea?

I think there's no point in signatures.
