I think that this is a trope that can be easily depicted but... It requires image manipulation which I'm not good at.

My idea is to show Brock's HG/SS team and a caption "Gee I guess I'll have to pick paper grass."

I think his HG/SS team is clearly a bunch of rock related creatures even to non Pokemon fans.

I know but the image should show how overspecialized he is.

Rodney gave me a hand with this.

Is is clear that they're all pretty much the same kind of Pokemon from the image?

[up] No, not really.

Omastar, Relicanth, and Kabutops don't look extremely rock-ish.

Maybe we could do something like this image. Except with the pattern extended across the entire screen.

Heh. It's okay, but not a real example of the trope. The trope is supposed to be that one part of the Elemental Rock–Paper–Scissors is stronger than the other, so someone will be tempted to build their skills/deck/party/whatever around it by selecting only this element.

Rock Paper Scissor is not an example, as rock is not superior, same as paper. Also, the image above... well, paper is only superior coz Guest is completely retarded and doesn't pick anything else. So dunno, doesn't really feel like a great example of the trope.

Uh, no. The trope is about how some people in an Elemental Rock–Paper–Scissors use one particular element, and thus you can completely dominate them.

If we decide against jebuz and rodney Anonymous awesome pic, I get going by Rhyme Beat suggestion, but instead of using Brook and a bunch of rock Pokemon use some fire gym leader. Fire got a more obvious weakness on water even for whose never played the game, making the trope more obvious (the caption would play with it, of course).

Agreed. How about Blaine's team then? The only issue is that Houndoom lacks the visable flame but every other Pokemon is obviously firey.

Torkoal, Camerupt, Rapidash, Macargo, Houndoom, Magmortar, and Blaine himself.

  • muttering about these young kids and their fancy new pokemon*

The actual rock-paper-scissors pic is great, but I feel that a good pokemon image would certainly be more visually engaging.

So how about Blaine's Team? I mean the only one that doesn't look hot is Houndoom.

How about Blaine's Pokemon Silver team?

Magcargo, Magmar and Rapidash

All three very OBVIOUSLY fire based.

I still say a full team represents this better. Maybe we should replace Houndoom with another Pokemon he canonically has. the Houndoom's the only weak link in my current suggestion. How about Charizard?

Having a team of three allows for the pokemons to not be so damn tiny in the picture too, which is easier on the eye.

It works. Pretty dynamic. But for the caption replace "spell" with "move".

[up][up][up] The scale made my perfectionist and former Pokemon fan side to cringe. tongue But, yeah, good image.

The caption could be the one the OP suggested (with a variation): "Gee I guess I'll have to pick paper water." Gabriel Gloom's suggestion is too long and confusing.

I have little to no familiarity with Pokemon but I could tell that those creatures are supposed to be bigger. Wanted to emphasize that fire monsters are the old guy's repertoire. Could do a more generic kind of |: layout (three dots instead of the two represented by the colon), but I thought that looked cooler.

I like it for being something other than rock. I think a page image that illustrates a different example than the one described in the page title helps clarify what the trope is about.
