"Cheaty?" Mitch laughed. "We're fighting a god. You think he isn't going to try and make these tasks as impossible as possible, just to spite us? All's fair in love and war, and I don't think this is love."

"Yeah, that might not be the best idea," Six noted when Starling brought up her plan, having begun her approach when it became clear everything wasn't going to shit. "A fancy restaurant probably might not be what Fluffy is looking for, given what I heard of the conversation."

Starling: "So, anyone got a suggestion? I am looking into the direction of the person actually living here for no reason at all."

~looks at Igno~

Igno: Well, you heard 'im, gotta grab a fish or a bird. I'm thinkin' birds are unlikely, unless they're from a vault or something. I'm gonna try my luck at the Hoover Dam and head upstream, see if I can't find a clean spring!

Starling: "Alright. I guess while you do that I could go and look for some normal-ish restaurants maybe. Hmmm..." :/

"You don't think a turkey might work?" At this point Mitch was just spitballing. There were quite a lot of options available - Igno and Starling both had fairly good ideas, but Mitch wanted to make sure about a third possibility. "We could all work together. Try to actually cook something ourselves."

Sitting from the edge of the crater, Vivian shouts down to everyone below "You guys DO know how to cook, right?!" while barely hiding a cheeky grin. Primarily because she's about 75% certain of the answer already.

"...yeah, I don't think I'd be able to make something that would be up to Fluffy's standards," admitted Mitch. "Hey, Starling, you want some help?"

Starling: "Yeah, I can't cook either. So help in looking for a good restaurant would be appreciated." >_>

Vivian pipes up again, holding her hands around her mouth to make a much louder echo. "I can cook!" she shouts down to her friends. "If you get what you want to cook, I can whip you something up that doesn't taste like it came out of the wasteland!"

Vivian, it turned out, could cook. Mitch had no idea how he hadn't known this, given how long he knew Vivian, but he figured it was probably just because he never asked and it never came up.

"Well, that changes things a bit! Igno! If you find something, get it to Vivian!"

Six, in the meanwhile, headed over to Igno. "My wildlife survival training's a bit rusty, but I might be able to help you find something if ya want."

Igno: Oh, sure, you can join if you wanna! I just gotta grab an icebox and a geiger counter back home before we head off!

"Geiger counter for scanning the fish? Because if it's environmental MJOLNIR's got one," Six pointed out.

Igno: Both, really. -shrugs- Just trying to find a clean place to make sure the fish there ain't irradiated, y'know?

"Well," Six said, as she looked around at everyone present, "whatever we're doing, I think we should use that fancy skeleton car to get a ride back to Vegas! It's a long walk back to the Colorado River or the Strip, after all!"

Shrugging, Mitch headed back towards the old car Vivian had pulled up. It was a quite reasonable course of action, no matter what you were doing.

To make a long story short, the taxi cab driver from hell transports everyone back safely to Nethervegas. The astute might notice that the ride is less bumpy, but the tires on the broken down moving heap of steel look much more red and slick than before...

As the haunted transporter dropped everyone off in Nether Vegas, Six tapped the seat. "Hey. After everyone else gets out, take me and Iggy to the Colorado River, if you would."

Mitch, in the meanwhile, disembarked and waited for Starling to get out before heading towards the Strip.

As Vivian gets out of the hellish taxi cab and waves bye to Igno and Six, the skeleton driver rattles loudly as it takes them to the Colorado river with no complaint beyond a muttering of "running the meter".

The Colorado River...one of the few places in this world not drenched in radiation, thanks in part to the death of the former owner of Nethervegas. The resting place of the Hoover Dam, the sight of multiple struggles between barbarians and the pseudo-civilized. The life blood of whatever remains of humanity in this vast desecrated ocean of sand...and also the area most contested by the New Demon Republic and Casear's Legion. Since one of these sides has been weakened immensely, there are more NDR personnel here, but as long as you are careful, it should be easy enough to find a spot where you won't be harassed for "protection".

The First Trial - The Colorado River

The Colorado River was unstable at the best of times, more so than the environment surrounding it because Nether Vegas generally took it to be the unofficial border between the NDR and the Legion. In practice, the NDR probably held slightly more control over the area than the Legion did by virtue of having a near-flawless track record of repulsing them every time they tried to cross, but that didn't stop the Legion or raiders they were paying from continually testing NDR defenses anyways.

These subtleties were not what SPARTAN-B312 was thinking about as she stepped out of the decrepit car and handed the driver five dollars of pre-war money she had found earlier on her sojourns as a tip. She was mostly thinking about food. There was a radshark earlier; surely there had to be smaller fish here, right?

"Well, Iggy, here we are. The Colorado River. You fish, I shoot?"

"Seems like a good spot, yeah..." Igno nodded as he approached the river, glancing around, watching for anything out of the ordinary. "Seems to be a good spot as any." The shapeshifter remarked as he stepped ankle-deep into the water, a bone growing out of his hand and fashioning itself into a fishing spear as he dipped the tip of his tail in the river, probing the stream for any movement or disturbance in the water.

"Think we've got a shot at catching a big one here? Like, enough fish for all of us?"

Igno was the type of person whose solution to a problem wasn't to grab a tool, but become the tool. As he approached the river he extruded a bone that proceeded to sharpen itself to a fine point, becoming a fishing spear, while he dipped his tail in the water for reasons that were not immediately clear.

"Honestly? I have no idea. This place is a post-nuclear glassland," Six exposited. "I'd be surprised if we found a fish around here."

"Get ready for a load of surprises, then." Igno replied with a smirk, scanning the river for signs of movement. "Life finds a way and all that... I mean, hey, The Bear and the Bull don't exactly make for a complete ecosystem. And Lake Mead's gotta have more than mutant turtles and sunken aircraft."

After a short pause, Igno continued, his smile fading slightly. "Real talk, though, if we caught a big fishy, enough to have a bit of a feast going, that'd be nice. I mean, it ain't part of the deal, but... Fluffy looks kinda lonely, yannow?"

"True enough. I mean, who knows? We might end up having to fight the fish for the right to cook it," Six joked, even though she knew that joking about it was in all likelihood an incredibly bad idea because that meant they might actually need to fight a fish down the line.

Igno thought Fluffy looked a little... lonely. "Eh. You'd know better than me, I wasn't exactly down there talking to it," she replied. "But hey, if it's not gonna eat me, I'm fine for eating with it."
