I'm hardly a hater but can't say I agree. The movie was even more wretched than the first book, if possible. but hey, Christopher Paolini is doing what we all want to do: writing blatant shitty Wish Fulfillment Self Insert Fics and making loads money off of them.

I like my coffee black just like my metal.Apart from the Holier Than Thou (ironically) Atheist Elves, I enjoyed the books so far. I refuse to see the film, however.

Or perhaps Eragon really is the poster-child for everything that can go wrong in fantasy fiction.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchWell, I guess Eye Of Argon is the worst, but at least it as recognized as being so. Eragon is still mediocre at best.
Warm hugs and morally questionable advice given here. Prosey Bitchfest![]()

We're not jealous, we just hate Paolini's writing even though we couldn't do any better.
I think the books get bashed a lot more than they deserve, honestly. Cliche, yes. Unsympathetic characters, yes. Somewhat boring, yes (especially by the third book). But there's much worse out there. Some of Wheel of Time (to pick another well known series) is at least as bad. It was decent for a first time effort by a young author, and even clever on occasion.
I disagree on Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, though. Tolkien is far beyond anything Paolini has accomplished.

You're Completely Missing The Point of The Lord Of The Rings if you're just after the Aragorn plotline. A book doesn't magically get bad just because the focus, tempo and atmosphere have shifted.
^^ This isn't so much hater-bashing as a consistent and up-to-date criticism. Or, in short, "no". Everything is subject to criticism, no matter what it is.

Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchThere is way too much critiscism here compared to conversations about other works. All I want is somewhere to discuss it without having to constantly defend it.
He who fights bronies should see to itthat he himself does not become a brony. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, Pinkie Pie gazes AlsoThen don't defend it and just discuss what you want to discuss. Enough people here like it that you'll have someone to speak with. It's just that a lot of the people who like it can also see its flaws.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchThat's a fallacy, Cute. Stop it.
There are too many toasters in my chimney!I think a lot of tropers could do better, fallacy or no fallacy.
