The press release states that they aren't... but they disagree over how best to save Mirrodin. And that apparently leads to fighting.
Koth doesn't like Venser's experimenting with old Phyrexian artifacts, and their meeting got off to a very rocky start, but after killing a bunch of Phyrexian zombies they agree that they need to work together. The duel deck probably takes place sometime after the end of Scarred, the last Koth/Venser/Elspeth webcomic.
Depends on the format:
In standard, Creeping Tar Pit, Drowned Catacombs, and Darkslick Shores.
In Modern, the above, plus Sunken Ruins, Watery Grave, and Underground River. Also, fetchlands can get Grave.
In Legacy, you'll want Underground Sea and Polluted Delta.

Best general ever? Best general ever.
I actually considered doing this in my Splinter Twin deck. The reasoning behind it was that Consecrated Sphinx was in some of the decks I'd seen, and I thought a CIP ability would be better for a card I expected to die. The extra mana was what convinced me it wasn't a great idea, but it's unlikely you'd be able to convince me to change my current list even if they cost the same.
Ruining everything forever.

Greater Gargadon could be fun.
I guess it is.
