Considering that Urabrask is extremely ambiguous storyline-wise, there might be some meaning to Whipflare's watermark.

Or it might just be another Necrotic Ooze error.

Oh, I agree. It's actually pretty much an awful design in my opinion.

As compared to what? Drawing a card and dealing targeted damage, which are such creative abilities for blue and red? A sword of supposed light and shadow that's pretty much just graveyard reanimation and (Extremely crappy) lifegain? How about that sword of body and mind, with its oh-so-useful milling ability?

Sword of War and Peace has symmetrical abilities, a sensical name, and the abilities actually make sense of the name (Unlike the first two swords). If anything, it's the best designed sword, since its abilities don't just seem glued together. My personal favorite sword is either Feast and Famine or Fire and Ice, but at least give a sensical reason for why you think the new sword is crappy.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I'm just really grouchy when it comes to New Phyrexia. Every time I see someone complain about it, I find something in their comment to bitch about. I like the new set a lot (And it looks ridiculous for almost all formats), but yeah, sorry about my tone in this post.

GUYS GUYS HOLY CRAP GUYS

Anyone remember that idea I had about abusing Kiln Fiend for a turn three win?

Well this set's going to have some cards that can help me with that.

Cantrip, minor burn, counter, pro-anything... And only the latter is going to cost me anything more than life, which isn't really a cost at all if I don't plan to be around on turn five.

That's... That's actually really frightening if it goes off.

Luckily, I packed a Dismember or three. And DAMN, that 1 mana peek-and-cantrip is neat in Vintage/legacy.

You could also throw in Marrow Shards and Mutagenic Growth.

That's true. I mean, look at Urabrask's own flavour text. That being said, Whipflare's flavour text talks about purging the incompleat and the art shows Phyrexians dying. There's not much room for ambiguity here.

Bah, how did I forget Mutagenic Growth? It's perfect!

The shards are kind of pointless though, since I'm going to be on the offensive for the game.

[up][up]Hey, cut me some slack, people in my playgroup run Jaces! But... I guess I can take that as a compliment. Thanks.

Your fault for not loading up on Force of Wills. tongue

Y'know, I actually don't think it's possible to make the deck TOO powerful. It's not like I have to play it, and it'll be fun for others to see it work. If it turns out to be game-breakingly good, I just end up with a competitive deck that's worth more than what I paid for, and that strikes me as a pretty sweet deal.

I agree with Stark that the Sword of War and Peace is a silly name, if only because it makes me think of gluing War And Peace on a stick, and bashing the opponent with it.

Edit: Oh, why not? Sword of Crime and Punishment! Sword of Humilated and Insulted! Sword of the Master and Margarita!

[[whine]] I hate Battle Cry mechanically. It's an ability that is linear and, unlike the similar ability Exalted, does not lend itself to card design or strategic play. Metalcraft had much better potential (And was hugely wasted), but Battle Cry was a waste. [[/whine]]

@Nyktos: If they don't like lifegain based on your hand size they shouldn't have done Venser's Journal, that's all I'll say.

@Yuanchosaan: Innistrad block brings with it a cycle of weapons named after the first five Animorphs books.

[up][up] That wouldn't work; Sandstone Needle enters tapped. If you want a turn 1 Kiln Fiend, just use a Simian Spirit Guide like everyone else.

Ah dun derped.

Yeah, I've been interested in Simian Spirit Guide for a while. It's pretty cheap considering what it does.

It might be a bit risky in the deck considering the number of cards I get will be pretty limited? And I'm going to be needing blue mana for the card draw...

Eh, I forgot the Journal. Maybe they reversed that policy. But I know that somewhere along the line they decided they didn't like cards that have effects based on how big your hand size is, because they encourage you to hold back your cards instead of playing them.

I guess it is.

Also Evil Artifact Maro, although that one can be used just as a 1/1 Robo Niv-Mizzet. We can safely assume that this policy has been withdrawn at least until M12, possibly until Innistrad.

Battle cry? a +1/+0? that's what you're bitching about not getting more of? Maybe my UB control is showing, but how is that better than say, going with infect? Infect permanently weakens a creature that survives, making it attack and defend at that lowered ability. How is a flat +1 on attacks preferable? Combining the two I could see, but by itself?

I definitely want to try out this Kiln Fiend thingy, so I'm going to try trading for them at a prerelease.

Of course, I'd also want to play in the prerelease. Last time I actually won a few packs...
