If the Mirrans win, where will the Phyrexians go? What plane do they have to go to if they are driven from Mirrodin? There's been quite a bit of effort expended on making the Praetors, so I can't imagine them being driven from Mirrodin unless there's an alternate plane for them to go to.

It's highly likely that Karn could take the Phyrexians to a new plane, leaving Mirrodin intact for the Mirrans. Still, it seems a lot cleaner just to have the Phyrexians compleat Mirrodin.

[up][up] Remember, there are other centres of infestation, such as Elspeth's home. It's possible they'd simply pile into a planeship and point it at some kind of growing Phyrexian beacon oh god I just turned them into cyborg Tyranids.

@Scardoll: Been done. I played against it. It revolved entirely around theft of permanents.

So did the other deck that was playing.

And I ran UR control.

It was a really slow game, and nobody wanted to play anything. I mostly just jerked people around by saying "all Islands have phasing" and using my red mana to burn stuff when islands were gone.

I still think New Phyrexia is more likely. Hell, the fact that they're supposedly printing the Praetors in it is a pretty strong hint that way...sure, there could be Phyrexian legendary creatures in Mirrodin Pure, but most of the major Mirran characters were already printed in the first two sets.

@Fifthman: A thought occurs, though. What if Karn were to take the Mirrans to a new plane, instead? That seems like a fairly reasonable way we could get a Phyrexian victory without it being a complete Downer Ending.

I guess it is.

Interesting thought. And it'd probably give rise to cards that at least have cool names. Like "Mass Exodus" or something.

The silly part of me is still hoping HA HA KAMIGAWA OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE TO SAVE THE DAY

The cynical part of me is thinking ALL A PLOT BY NICOL BOLAS OH LOOK HE JUST KILLED EVERYONE AND CLAIMED THE WHOLE PLANE FOR HIMSELF

IIRC the Phyrexians actually pretty much scare this shit out of Bolas, because they're strong enough to compete with him.

I guess it is.

I can totally imagine Nicol Bolas taming the Eldrazi to deal with Phyrexia.

I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos!

I can imagine Phyrexia vs Mirrodin being a ploy by Bolas to weaken both of them through a war of attrition, after which he swoops in, crushes the "victor", and just sort of generally keeps being a gigantic, scaly douchebag.

[up][up] I bought a Caterwauling Boggart purely for its synergy with Ib Halfheart and I have to call that something of a dick move.

Awesome once, though.

Thought as much, thanks!

Jhoira is impossibly overpowered, especially with all the combos I can imagine using with her.

Incredibly overpowered might not be entirely accurate. "Dies to Doom Blade" doesn't make a creature weak or even balanced, but it's still something you have to contend with if you center a strategy around a single creature's ability.

She's my EDH general. [lol] And it is because of her inherent squishiness that I wait until turn 5 to cast her, when I can revenge-suspend something like Darksteel Colossus. Or until I can give her Clout of the Dominus.

There's so many instant win or near instant win cards that Jhoira can whip out like nothing. Too bad most of them are banned in multiple formats.

Of course, "instant win" cards in normal games aren't always instant win cards in EDH.

Even something like Time Stretch won't guarantee you victory if there's a good amount of opponents.

If my Echo Mage hadn't been dead when it happened, I could've very nearly cast four Time Stretches earlier. For five mana, total. [lol]

[up]Meh, casting five lightning bolts for 12 damage each is flashier.

And faster.
