If Oscar Wilde had lived in our time, he would be a /b/tard.

Actually, scratch that. He does, and goes by Jethro Q Walrustitty.

Mont: I would disagree. It depends on the sub-genre, but there's still some mellow songs by metal bands.

For example, there's more of that kind of stuff in progressive and power metal.

I know there are plenty of mellow songs, my ex flatmate owns about 3000 records, all of them rock and metal, most of them apparently Finish...she tried to brainwash me into prog.

It didn't take, but I learned something about it along the way XD.

Anyway, the issue is not so much the sound of the song itself as the mental image associated; and I don't mean the lyrics, I mean the people singing it. And they just...don't look like they live in the suburbs.

Mont: Okay, sure, in the eighties, he didn't look normal. At all. Due to wearing those tight pants.

But, there are others. James LaBrie, for example.

Nothing in particular, though it isn't a look I go for. But regardless of my personal aesthetic preferences, the metal scene willfully projects a certain image; which is one of aggression and therefore redundant in connection with knives.

I get where Mont is coming from.

While rather clichéd, a classical piece would befit some extreme knife sharpening dissonance...

Depending on what piece it is.

For example, Finlandia wouldn't really project dissonance.

That's bollocks, to put it lightly.

[up][up][up] Indeed, I was more thinking something akin to Lacrimosa.

Something like Ode to Joy may also work rather... interestingly.

Great unsettling tone to that piece.

This has got me looking up classical pieces all over the place. Something I have rather little of, despite really enjoying them.
