Because peanut allergies are one of those allergies where it takes only a small concentration to set off a reaction. And since it doesn't make sense for a factory to be devoted entirely to one food, lots of foods get produced in tandem, and tend to differ depending on the season. So it is possible for small traces off food to cross contaminate each other.
