If Oscar Wilde had lived in our time, he would be a /b/tard.

Actually, scratch that. He does, and goes by Jethro Q Walrustitty.

Nabokov is a brilliant and witty writer.

I love the nonstop wordplay.

love it love it love it.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.

I now understand why people who are not my ethnicity, get all worked up about eating curry.

I feel that way about Chinese food. Must seem funny to the Chinese.

Curry's good. Is there something wrong with being not from a curry-eating culture and liking curry?

Now that I think on't, I have a shitton of lentils in the pantry. I should make something with them.

@ Anne. No, no, I just find it fascinating that people see eating curry as a really special thing.

For example:

"On the weekends, Hopey, we went out and had curry at that new Asian place in Star City. Oh god, it was awesome!"

"What, curry? It's not awesome. To me, that's just food."

I dunno, I think I've been terse recently. I use the internet to de-stress, which is probably part of the problem - lapsing into asshole mode is easy >:

maybe.

So it turns out that Nabokov actually got less mind-bendy when he moved to America and started writing in English.

What are his other Russian novels like, then? Because Ada was pretty damn weird

I've heard Pale Fire is a good book, but I've never read it.

Well you're not talking to me here, but in any case I think that's less being bitchy and more not having the best self-control. I have the same problem.

Three chapters in and the protagonist has been sentenced to death for gnostical turpitude, and also he works in a toystore that sells tiny models of famous 19th century Russian authors.

So yeah.

^ Of course, the literary community proceeded to ignore everything that Nabokov said about it and to interpret it however they felt like.

But yeah, Pale Fire was awesome.

Nabokov's nonstop wordplay is a style that more authors should adopt. I wonder what Dune would have been like if it had been written in the Nabokov style.
