Just post whatever comes to mind.
Please refrain from excess venting in this thread. Talking about negative emotions is fine but it's best not to dwell on them for too long. TV Tropes is not suited to deal with mental health situations.
If Oscar Wilde had lived in our time, he would be a /b/tard.
Actually, scratch that. He does, and goes by Jethro Q Walrustitty.

Sir, actually play videogames before you make sweeping statements about them.
That is all I have to say.
And if you say that you have played videogames, then, well you've obviously been playing a very specific kind if you think they portray the world in black in white all the time.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....@yarrunmace: I would refer you to:
- Team Fortress 2: You must work together with your teammates, formulate your own strategies and even teach others if you want to win.
- Killing Floor: You can't be a Jack of All Trades, but you can work together to be unstoppable.
- Dystopia: No one side is "morally superior."
- Alpha Protocol: Talking to people is very important.

And Mother, and Metal Gear, and pretty much every non-sanbox, non-war game made since the 90s.
संसारBut on the other side, Modern Warfare. It's not like he doesn't have a point.

But yeah, if anything the problem is with media aimed for kids and young adults, which are usually going to have simplistic moral conflicts no matter what the medium.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.I kind of meant the garden-variety "kill-everything-in-your-path" videogame. I should have specified the kind of videogames with excuse plots, since I have played games with actual plots.
And I just realized that, even using this watered-down definition of a videogame, my argument makes no sense. The argument that I used can be applied to any badly-written action story in every type of media ever, and there are still a good amount of action-ish books and movies that aren't so simplistic. So, I should assume that a simplistic view will pervade every action game with an excuse plot.
In short, I had a stupid thought and didn't realize it was stupid. Please forgive me.
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedThe plain fact of it is that despite all the shit out there, in modern eras we have more of a demand for complex quality stories and media than ever, and thanks to volume we're getting it. Sure there are twenty Halo 2s for Ever Silent Hill 2 but we've got more Silent Hill 2s than ever before.
In honesty, I'm less worried about black-and-white morality in fiction than I am about the absolute brain poison that are things like Jersey Shore and Americas Next Top Model which encourage the worst excesses of self-absorbsion.

"Everyone wants an answer, don't they?... I hate things with answers." — Grant Morrison@ Raven House: It's more like "my argument had huge, gaping holes but I didn't see them because I wasn't looking for them" or "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time"
