I listen to Yellow Magic Orchestra regularly, so I like this thread. Though I wonder if this should be moved to the Music forum.

Considering that they were the trope makers of that videogame-style music (people call it 8-bit or chiptune or whatever), they probably influenced plenty of Japanese videogame music composers.
Still need to finish watching the Propaganda conceptual video.
YMO were quite influential on Electronic Music in general. Their early albums were great, they were one of the better pure Synth-Pop bands of their era.
Also, it does seem like a lot of Video Game composers listened to them. Then again, many of the important video games of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras were from Japan, as were YMO, who were quite commercially successful over there at their peak. Make of that what you will...

Check out this cool band I found. I am pretty sure these guys discovered the extradimensional source from which all awesome Japanese video game music was subsequently tapped.
By the way: The above song is from an album they released in 1979. These guys were ahead of their time.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.
