Looks good either with the white background or the lavender one. I think the white one is a hair better— he'll just be standing right on the page with no sharp "here endeth the page image" line. But the cropping on the lavender one brings the focus on the dime better. I can't decide. And it doesn't need a caption.

In my opinion, the lavender background pic is better, because I think the focus on the dime is more important than the background's color.
"Your kindness gives me the presentiment I can be reborn. Now, I want to believe at least in you." - Kaori YaeI would suggest the episode of Spongebob Squarepants where Mr. Krabs has his first ever dime that's a giant dime-shaped rock ("I've been in business a long time, boy"), but this works too.
Does Krabb's First dime have this aspect:
"an item that is in and of itself of average or little interest (e.g. it's not a BFG or otherwise especially useful, usually the opposite even), but to the character, it is ridiculously overimportant in a strictly sentimental way."
That's the trope, rather than necessarily "first [X] he ever earned/made/whatever".

#1 Dime and Security Blanket have the same picture. It's a great picture for the latter trope, but the former could probably use another. Maybe someone could find a picture of Scrooge Mc Duck with the dime which is the Trope Namer?
