is a version of the story that isn't hidden behind a paywall account registration.
The second part of the topic title is misleading, though - there's no early indications that Activision is the leading bidder for Harmonix, or that they're bidding at all. You're better than to put crap like that in a topic title, JAF.

Is this that surprising? Music games are becoming less popular because the fad is starting to pass, so Harmonix's parent company thinks selling them would be a good idea. And it's good, since I'm kind of sick of the genre being totally dominated by Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and the focus on selling music rather than on actual gameplay. Not that this would necessarily change that.

*facepalm*
This is how dumb rumors get started.
Try telling us, with evidence beyond gut instinct, why Activision might be buying Harmonix. As Viacom hasn't even revealed who they're talking to that would be interested in buying Harmonix, no one can really say beyond speculation. My gut instinct tells me that EA, having helped publish Rock Band for so long, would be more likely.

The blind man walking off the cliff is not making a leap of faith. An investment firm that seems content to let them do their thing, should everyone's words in the article be taken at face value (hahahaha good one).
Still, better than one of the giant corrupt corporations, as the thread title oddly suggested.
