Congratulation, you just end up recreating by yourself a variation of Detective Delicious' Fan Nickname.
Isn't it? Their troll faces are ugly, for some reason. It does't have the same impact.
I actually like the new goats.
Maybe a bit Narmy, but it worked for me.
Looking again at the PS 3 sprites, I also noticed creepy!Maria is not good. Sure, it is not as shitty as the anime, but her face is way too deformed (this style would work better in the troll faces, actually). The original creepy!Maria is a masterpiece, I guess. Her expression is very natural and not jarring. What make it creepy is solely the fact it is a child making it. Both the anime and PS 3 decided to exaggerate it, to give more emphasis, but the result just weakened the impact.
I don't actually mind the original graphics. Although I try hard to not look at the hands. Still, the PS 2 graphics are much better (although I only have a patch for Meakashi). It would have been great if the graphics were based on the manga adaptations. Especially the ones that were drawn by Karin Suzuragi.

This level of trolling is reasonable for Commander Obvious. What do you think of this, everyone?![]()
I thought the same thing. Ange aside Will also looks better. Considering the huge improvement between Higurashi and Umineko, When They Cry 5 may actually be quite well drawn (or whatever be 07's new project).

I heard that Higanbana No Saku Yoru Ni is going to get a VN. It's not related to the When They Cry canon so far, though.

It is not uncommon for the artist to have their own input in the series. More important, being the director don't mean it is completely his project. He is the planner and director of Ookami Kakushi, but it is not really considered one of his main projects, is it?
Also, wasn't we discussing the art in the first place? Seeing his art evolving in his next work was the reason I brought up his future projects at all. If he is not the artist, then this project is meaningless for the discussion.
That being said, Higanbana No Saku Yoru Ni is, at last, a 07th Expansion project (unlike Ookami, which is from Konami). So I believe it is 'his' project, yeah, even though it is, again, useless for the previous topic.
I guess I wrote a review of this show, although I did not intend it to be a review.
Please note that I both watched the series, and wrote this, while drunk.

I cannot link this properly. Hm. Sorry.

There are too many toasters in my chimney!
i will say its a bit unfair since you forgot the "charms"
its pretty bizarre to see that Higurashi and Umineko has charms that have nothing to do with the crazy gory deaths
Higurashi has that crazy Answer Arc (2nd season in the anime) that blew my mind
when it suddenly all made sense and made the final episodes epic
while Umineko has scenes that resemble a particularly famous visual novel that has to do with lawyers
that makes the story more spectacular than its already-awesome precedessor
and filled with tons of Fridge Horror moments
of course, this may be my fanboyism (ROCKETOJIMA ISLAND) and glee at murder mysteries done right
and while it is true the violence is over-the-top and sometimes sadistic
people should take credit the mystery aspect which fans are so turned on by

This level of trolling is reasonable for Commander Obvious. What do you think of this, everyone?I mentioned the two aspects that I thought were most relevant to the point I was making- the mystery arc and the violence/horror.
The mystery arc is one of the prime draws of the series, and it was the part of the series that I actually enjoyed.
The violence/horror was the biggest concern, though. The violence is so over-the-top at times, and yet it is done without a hint of irony. It was the bit I was focused on, as it is the biggest dealbreaker for me. If you don't like the thought of violence, or if you can't stand too much of it, then this show is not for you.
However, if you can, or if you enjoy that, then this series may well be for you. It has a good myth arc, and its' characters are mostly relatable and nice.
However, I should have focused more on the characters, too, you are right.
There are too many toasters in my chimney!Well, if my first impression were right, it wouldn't be one of my favorite series now.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.Okay I pretty much knew immediately that Shion and Mion were different people, but when it's revealed I think I was supposed to find it funny. Instead, Shion seems like a horrible person.
I mean, Mion is all upset and all after as can be expected. But the music that was playing seems jarringly inappropriate.

If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be seem as a tease between sisters. The kind of cruel joke the bigger sibling pull over then younger one. At any rate, this was made to establish Shion as 'someone who wins over' Mion, since Mion have been played before as the 'unflinching' leader.
Btw, may I ask how much you have been spoiled (if at all)? The existence of Shion is something one could accidentally be spoiled even if avoiding it, as it is kinda Late-Arrival Spoiler, for she makes an appearance every chapter afterward (so it is hard not mention her her while talking of the series). Yet, you didn't know about it. May I assume you don't know the latter twists either?

The loss of troll faces is the biggest problem with the HD Umineko sprites.
