Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

At Anime & Manga: A to F, for Darker than Black, please make it OVA.

At Video Games G To P, for Prince of Persia, for The Forgotten Sands, "Ahihud invaded and ancient kingdom" should be "Ahihud invaded an ancient kingdom"

I don't know what happened at Dungeons & Dragons, but you changed the wrong Takhisis.

The was a miscommunication for the Maker (Ultimate Universe) at Marvel Comics; please just copy and paste this:

  • This version of Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards, also known as The Maker, is a sociopathic, vindictive megalomaniac with a pathological desire to "save" humanity, regardless of how depraved or insane the methods might be. Though starting out as a seemingly-heroic figure, Reed slowly gives into his true personality of a homicidal creep seeking ultimate rule over reality. Kicking his villainy off by vaporizing his parents and child sisters, Reed later recuperates from initiating a failed alien invasion of Earth by creating the City and the Children of Tomorrow. Using his new "evolved" humanity as his personal soldiers and puppets while claiming benevolence, Reed has them begin absorbing entire cities before annihilating all of Washington, D.C. Slaughtering the entirety of Asgard and attempting the same on Tian, Reed eventually teams up with Kang to rewrite reality and take over time and space, all while planning to turn on Kang and change reality to his own wishes. After revealing his seeming redemption was faked, Reed destroys over sixty alternate Earths before trying once more to rewrite reality in his image, and now haunts Earth-616 with schemes of zombifying thousands of people. With a penchant for vivisection and torturous experimentation, Reed constantly boasts claims of good intentions, when, in reality, he is nothing but a petty child seeking adoration and power over all life.

At Film M To R, please replace the Maciste stuff with this:

  • Maciste films (by release date):
    • Cabiria: Karthalo is one of the earliest examples of a film CM, and still one of the vilest. The High Priest of the devilish, three-eyed Moloch, Karthalo engineers the mass sacrifice of hundreds of children at a time to be stripped naked and dumped one-by-one into a furnace to be burned alive as tribute to Moloch. Karthalo coldly tortures and murders any opposition to the sacrifice, having Croessa, the nanny of the young Cabiria, painfully flogged and later ripped apart by his followers, and later brutally torturing the good-hearted servant Maciste before chaining him to a millstone and condemning him to grueling labor at the millstone's side for the rest of his life. In his lowest moment, Karthalo attempts to rape Cabiria, the same girl he had attempted to sacrifice over ten years ago, out of nothing more than a fit of cruel lust. A zealot, a slaver, a torturer, and a madman with countless atrocities on his hands, Karthalo's evil shines just as wickedly today as it did over a century ago.
    • Son of Samson (1960): The evil queen Smedes of Egypt, and her royal vizier partner, are a pair of Persian sympathizers looking to maintain control over Egypt. Murdering the goodhearted pharaoh and brainwashing his son Kenamon, Smedes and her vizier put the people of Egypt under a terrifying, despotic reign of torture, slavery and massacres, with one luckless rebel taken and burnt with hot pokers until the vizier simply tortures him to death. Smedes also has women taken to be sold into slavery, targeting Kenamon's beloved Nofret, intending on control of Egypt without caring how many she has to slaughter.
    • Goliath and the Vampires (1961): Kobrak is the vampiric master of the kingdom of Salmanak, ruling through its Sultan. Seeking world domination, Kobrak has entire villages burned to the ground, with survivors taken to be made into his robotic slave army, while women are forced into harems. After the Sultan defies him by allowing Goliath and his love Guja to escape, Kobrak murders him and later has Goliath and Guja captured himself, attempting to destroy Goliath's brain through sound waves to make him his mindless slave. When Goliath escapes, Kobrak assumes his form and infiltrates the cave of the rebel Blue Men to attempt to kill them all, fatally impaling his former slave Astra when she warns them.
    • Triumph of the Son of Hercules (1961): The evil Queen Tenefi and her uncle Prince Agadon, took over the throne of Memphis in a brutal coup, with Agadon murdering the fair king and attempting to kill his young son to ensure he had no heirs. Together, Tenefi and Agadon tax and oppress Memphis's citizens, torturing and executing those who stand up to them, with one village revealed to have been entirely massacred. They also, on a daily basis, kidnap unwilling women and then have them burned alive in offering to the god of fire Tenefi and Agadon serve. Tenefi, lusting after Maciste, makes him prove his strength by forcing him to prevent a bladed carriage from decapitating his rebel friends, before brainwashing him to make her his own, furiously attempting to burn his true beloved, Antea, when she frees him.
    • The Witch's Curse (1962): Judge Edgard L. Parris(h)'s cruelty caused the evil of the Wicked Witch Martha Gaunt. Parris, spurned by Gaunt in life, executed her lover before burning her alive. Cursed to follow her in damnation, Parris torments Gaunt and shadows her as their curse drives women to insanity and suicide for a century. When Gaunt's ancestor is about to burn, Maciste invades Hell, softening Gaunt's heart with his courage-–while Parrish remains scornful to the end, attempting to slaughter Maciste with Hell's torments.
    • Colossus and the Headhunters: Kermes is a ruthless usurper who aims to rise to rule his tribe, betraying them to Goona's headhunters. He overthrows Princess Amoa's father and tortures him, trying to force Amoa to marry him to obtain access to the throne, before he allows the Headhunters access to her tribe, having a man decapitated to prove a point to the others, willing to have hundreds more killed for the sake of power.
    • Goliath and the Sins of Babylon (1963): The evil Morakeb is the true power behind Babylon's throne, organizing sacrifices where innocent women are taken to Babylon to be sacrificed regularly, thirty in each sacrifice. Morakeb has a grieving father fed to lions when the man attacks him; murders his own spy when the man asks for a reward; and shows a willingness to completely wipe out an opposing city and all who live there, even forcing the allies of hero Maciste into psychological torture to prove themselves to him. When Babylon finally falls, Morakeb even murders his own king before trying to escape.

~Rytex, Ubisoft Tower runs afoul of Trope-Namer Syndrome. It seems like that was pointed out in the TLP draft as well, so even though it had some support, I think that's going to be a decline.

I do think you are going to get some search benefit from it being included in the description, though. It's just not going to be a redirect.

~Dravencour, I concede it is common, but I don't think it improves search results or trope clarity.

~Crossover-Enthusiast, I'll come back to that request in a bit.

~ACW, sorry about those mistakes. Everything good?

~Crossover-Enthusiast, I'm comparing the two messages:

"The edit you made on [article] is speculating about the events of the work. We trope events that explicitly happen within the work; theory-crafting or theorizing about Ambiguous Situations has no place on the main wiki and should be saved for Wild Mass Guessing."

"The [article] edit you made looks like it is speculating on unreleased events. Please read the Speculative Troping; examples can only come from publicly available information, not assumptions, unofficial leaks, or early-access. When an example occurs in marketing for the work, make sure to mention that in the context of the example. Articles for unreleased works will be processed here; pages that do not meet wiki policy may be cut."

What's the goal in the rewrite? Brevity?

[up][up][up] "unreleased speculation" would be for speculation or uncited examples based on pre-release material for unreleased works, standard "speculation" would be for regular speculation on released works. The current speculation notifier only talks about unreleased stuff, and I figured adding the stuff about actually released works would make it too long.

At Kamen Rider, for V3, please cut the "/Zariganna" for Marshal Armor.

Please redirect Colour Separation Overlay to Chroma Key, as the abbreviation CSO already redirects there.

(British English spelling only, as it's a British-exclusive term.)

A Troper, n3xus, had changed "Destron Rider" to "Zariganna" without permission. As I mentioned on the CM thread, I proposed to remove "Destron Rider" anyway since it was non-canon to the show itself, and to avoid a possible Edit War with n3xus; "Zariganna" has been already removed from YMMV to match the CM locked page.

I don't understand how something used primarily by BBC means it's British-exclusive. I've seen Wikipedia and The Free Dictionary using Color Separation Overlay as a redirect, no reason for us not to do that too (though the article does not mention this term in any form).

Addition for Complete Monster (Film):

Please cut 13 Reasons Why from Live Action TVA To L.

Please cut Superbook from Anime & Manga: O to Z and add the following to Western Animation (series):

  • Superbook (2011):
    • Satan himself is the cruel, manipulative devil who rules over Hell and wants to taint all of God's creation. After leading a failed coup in Heaven where he murdered many angels, Satan corrupts Adam and Eve, unleashing his influence onto the Earth and allowing him to spread death and chaos. Satan causes natural disasters for fun, orders his demons to drive people insane, and personally ruins the life of Job, killing many of his servants and sons in the process just to try to prove a point. Satan's final plan is to destroy most of humanity and enslave the rest, a plan which he personally tries to start by murdering two children while mocking them.
    • Haman is the despicable advisor to King Xerxes who, after feeling personally insulted when the Jew Mordecai won't bow to him, decides to exterminate every Jew in Xerxes's kingdom. Haman tricks Xerxes into believing the Jews are a violent and treacherous people and sends out the order to kill every Jew young and old in the kingdom, personally constructing a gallows in his own home so he can watch with glee at Mordecai's death by hanging.

With Tumblr in its death throes, I think it's time to work in a complete overhaul of the site's pages. Pretty much all of them bear the earmarks of having been written up around 2012-2013. Tumblr's entire culture has gone through so many morphs by now that it's impossible for TV Tropes' pages on it to not look incredibly dated. I'd love to open up a discussion on what should stay and go.

The page should probably just be purged of tropes. Tumblr itself is not a content creator, just a platform for others' content.

Usual batch to come tomorrow, but we have quite a lot this week, so here's a mini batch:

Thanks.

EDIT: Slight rewrite for Film A To C (Alex Cross films):

  • Kiss the Girls: "Casanova"—Detective Nicholas Ruskin—is a Serial Killer and Serial Rapist who, as a self-proclaimed "collector of loves", kidnaps young women and locks them up in an underground dungeon in the woods to create a captive harem he can use to act out his twisted fantasies. Any girl who breaks his rules or tries to escape is either murdered by lethal injection or tied to a tree to die of starvation and exposure. He admits that his motive for all this is purely the thrill he gets in possessing other human beings and breaking them down completely through rape and torture. His allegiance with the "Gentleman Caller", a fellow serial killer from the West Coast, is similarly self-interested as he sees him as expendable. Near the end he visits the only girl who escaped by herself to complete his attempted murder of her. When detective Alex Cross arrives on the scene after having figured out Casanova's real identity, Casanova taunts Cross by pointing out how he molested Cross's niece, one of his last victims, for more than a week.
