Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. The Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard tropes aren't currently adding or removing examples. Wick changes and other minor corrections to the locked trope pages can be made via this thread, but more significant changes will be declined.
  9. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

On Fox News Channel, under the Cowboy BeBop at His Computer entry:

The beginning of the description reads: Before the first Mass Effect 1 game was released, ...

That doesn't really flow logically. Should either say "Before the first Mass Effect game was released, ... (linking to the franchise page), or "Before the release of Mass Effect 1, ... (linking to the page for the first game in the franchise).

(Two Days Later Edit: Unless Mass Effect is like Street Fighter 2 where there's about 20 different iterations of Street Fighter 2...)

If the current examples for Yami Marik and "Yami Bakura" on the Complete Monster subpage for Yu Gi Oh could be cut and replaced with these?

  • Dark Marik, the twisted split personality who drove the real Marik off the deep end in the first place. Seizing control of Marik's body during his childhood, he killed their Abusive Dad, then tried to kill their adoptive brother, who had been keeping Dark Marik locked up. This failed, and Dark Marik bided his time, gaining strength, and driving Marik to further and further acts of cruelty in his quest to Take Over the Worldnote . Resurfacing when Marik's brother was defeated in the Battle City semifinals, Dark Marik exiled his better half from their shared body, then engaged Mai Valentine, The Spirit of the Millenium Ring, and Joey Wheeler in a series of increasingly sadistic Shadowgamesnote  that saw all three damned to the Shadowrealm. He also made several attempts on the lives of his sister and comatose adoptive brother. This all culminated in a final battle against Yami, during which he arranged for any damage the two of them incurred to be suffered by their better halves, Marik and Yugi, nearly killing them both. An Axe-Crazy Combat Sadomasochist with omnicidal designs on the world, Dark Marik left the cast in shellshock and irrevocably altered the tone of the show.
  • The Spirit of the Millenium Ring was the show's longest running antagonist, and one of its worst. During the Duelist Kingdom arc he traps Yugi and his friends within the card game, resulting in their being sent the graveyard if defeated. He subsequently tries to bodyjack Mokuba Kaiba, and rips Pegasus' Millenium Eye out of his eye socket, leaving him in a coma. During Battle City, he infiltrates the tournament and sends Bonz, Zygor, and Sid to the Shadowrealm, then tries to do the same to Yugi and Yami. Failing, he returns in Season 5 as The Big Bad. Outing himself as an agent of Zorc Necrophades, The Spirit of the Ring repossesses Bakura, and sets in motion a plot to bring about The End of the World as We Know It. He kidnaps Mokuba to force Kaiba into a Shadowgame, then traps the entire cast in the Memory World, where he can control their lives, possessing Tristan and his own past self, Thief King Bakura, in the process. Eventually pulling a You Have Outlived Your Usefulness on his own past self, The Spirit of the Ring unleashes Zorc in the past, while taking on Yami in his final Shadowgame in the present, with the intent of making the entire world bow down to his dark god.

The new entries use the proper names for the characters, and detail their crimes in more detail.

On the Side Effects Include... page, there should be a more specific reference on the third item on the Advertisement section (concerning Athsma medicines) such as this excerpt: "Advair contains Salmeterol. Salmeterol may increase the chance of athsma related death." http://youtu.be/GKCq9sJU8T8?t=29s

For "The Legend of Korra", could you please add the Moral Event Horizon trope in Book 2 Spirits, and say something along the lines of: "Vaatu was shown from his first scene to be very unpleasant, but he absolutely crosses the line when he corrupts all of Wan's spirit friends, forcing them into conflict with Wan's human friends, which results in the deaths of all the humans"? Thanks.

In Locked Pages, there are some troper pages mentioned in the list that, supposedly, are locked due to vandalism. Since all troper pages can now be only edited by their own users anyway, and since the tropers mentioned in that page are moderators and thus can edit them regardless of the pages' status as "locked", shouldn't said pages be removed from the list?.

Locked Pages:

Both these entries go to the same wiki page. Please replace with.

Edit: The Fundamentalist has 'we' in the text of the Left Behind example. Please replace with:

  • The Christians from the Left Behind series. Not only do they engage in selfishness, pettiness, and condescension to anyone who doesn't agree with them, but on top of it all the audience supposed to be on their side. That sort of behavior is expected from the bad guys, the followers of The Antichrist, but these are supposed to be the heroes.

I believe the subentry can safely be deleted.

Picking up from post #6823 since Fighteer appears to handled the posts in-between:

6823-6831: Done.

6830: Done. The last example on the page needs to be re-written to get rid of or at least minimize the spoiler text.

6832: Done; I re-worded your suggestion a bit.

6833: Done. I'm very leery of adding examples to that page due to the past problems with it and my unfamiliarity with the work...if things get contested I will probably back off from editing it entirely.

6834: Locked and added to Locked Pages.

6835: Possibly, but I'm good to leave those on the list for now. I'll talk it over with the staff.

6836: Done. I reworded the example on The Fundamentalist a bit.

Also cut this line from Monster.Disney on the Gargoyles section:

From the same series, the Archmage is also a candidate, as is Thailog depending on how squickily you want to interpret his relationships with various other characters, particularly the clones.

And in Monster.Literature the Technic History by Poul Anderson monster got lumped under another entry and should be its own entry.

Thanks!

Good, but if The Great Character Alignment Debate is staying open for editing (I do not see a reason for a re-lock, but others may disagree), its mention in Locked Pages needs to be taken off.

What I meant was I didn't realize the page was moved to Administrivia/. Leaving it unlocked there was just an omission.

Minor edits for Griefer: the two —— lines shouldn't have spaces above them, and the foldercontrol should.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

[up] Actually, I much prefer that pages have that extra space between the divider lines and what's immediately above them...it keeps the overall flow of spacing between items on the page consistent and makes the layout more aesthetically pleasant to me. I did put the extra space over the foldercontrol button.

Please replace the Tom Clancy examples in Monster.Literature with this

  • Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series:
    • Without Remorse is a revenge fantasy about drug dealers, set during the Vietnam War. The protagonist, an ex Navy SEAL named John Kelly, runs afoul of a drug ring run by a man named Henry Tucker. Tucker smuggles high-grade heroin into the Baltimore area inside the bodies of American soldiers killed in Vietnam. He distributes the drugs via a stable of prostitutes that he controls using drugs, rape, and torture. When one of his girls escapes and befriends Kelly, he has her kidnapped, then rapes her, tortures her, and mutilates her corpse, forcing the other girls to watch, before dumping it in a public fountain. As Kelly tracks him down while murdering his people, he grows increasingly desperate, going so far as to kill his own associates out of paranoia, then attempts to kill his remaining girls when they prove to be a security risk. In the end, he is shot down like a dog without pity, and even the police admit that Kelly did something that they themselves might have done were they not bound by the law.
    • Patriot Games gives us Sean Miller, leader of an Irish terrorist group. The book begins with Miller leading an attack on the British Royal family. After being stopped, Miller goes after The Hero and CIA analyst Jack Ryan and his whole family, causing the car with Ryan's daughter Sally and pregnant wife Cathy to crash. With other various acts of terrorism to his name, one incident from Miller sticks out. When in prison, a guard saves him from Prison Rape from other inmates. During his escape, Miller has the guard at his mercy and chooses to shoot him in a way to paralyze him for life, viewing it worse than killing the man and declaring gratitude is a "disease of dogs"

On the Yu Gi Oh subpage, a line didn't get into the new write-up for The Spirit of the Millenium Ring. If the current first line of the write-up could be replaced with this longer one, it will solve the problem, and we can be done with his entry.

Sorry about that. The Ring's possession of Bakura is such an integral part of the character that it slipped through the cracks when we were approving the write-up.

EDIT: A write-up we missed. If the current entry for Eden Fletcher on the film subpage could be replaced with this one:

  • The Proposition has Eden Fletcher, the town's leading citizen, and a Knight Templar par excellence. Enraged by Captain Stanley's decision to turn accused rapist and murderer Charlie Burns loose, Fletcher convinces the townsfolk that Charlie's younger brother Mikey, who is both fourteen and severely handicapped, should be punished in place of Charlie, and their older brother Arthur, who actually did the crime. Fletcher manipulates a mob of townsfolk, including Stanley's wife, Martha, into demanding that Mikey be given one hundred lashes. By forty lashes, Mikey is dying from blood loss, the rest of the townsfolk are turning away in horror, Martha has fainted, and Fletcher is still demanding that the other sixty lashes be meted out. When Stanley refuses, Fletcher has him fired, knowing full well that his actions will bring Arthur Burns down on the town. Couple this with his order to Stanley to kill every Aborigine in the region, and we are dealing with a thoroughly detestable man.
