Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. The Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard tropes aren't currently adding or removing examples. Wick changes and other minor corrections to the locked trope pages can be made via this thread, but more significant changes will be declined.
  9. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

Could we update the links on the Double Standard page? Some of the pages listed are horribly outdated, such as have a link to Me Love You Long Time instead of Asian Gal with White Guy. This is just one example.

I want to add a trope to Saya no Uta, and I'm led to believe this is where to request it.

  • Meat Moss: Fuminori sees the entire world covered with this, except if it actually is, or looks like it. In one of the endings, this is how the world ends up.

Fifty Shades Of Grey - this desparately needs either Did Not Do The Research or more realistically Critical Research Failure added - the narrative in no way at all resembles any type of real life BDSM relationship in any way. Example text:-

(Insert either trope here): The author has no understanding of how real life BDSM relationships work or BDSM culture as a whole - the scenarios and characters blatantly ignore or violate the serious precepts of consent, awareness, negotiation, limits and physical, mental and emotional safety and health that underpin Safe, Sane, and Consensual BDSM interactions and relationships.

[up] Although I'm not a moderator, as your post demonstrates, Did Not Do The Research has joined the Permanent Red Link Club, so it won't be added as that. I'm not certain it will be added as Critical Research Failure either, since there has been something of a policy shift of moving away from that sort of entry in trope lists (the perma-redlinking of Did Not Do The Research is part of this). But I'm not a mod, so I may be wrong.

Ah - must have missed that development - ok, can we add an Artistic License entry to Fifty Shades Of Grey instead? E.g.

Artistic License: The BDSM relationship and scenarios depicted in the book bear little relation to real world BDSM practices and relationships, which emphasise the importance of informed consent, negotiation, safewords and safety for all participants under the Safe, Sane, and Consensual mantra.

I think the "Babies Make Everything Better / Good Girls Avoid Abortion and Childfree Is Not Allowed / Child Hater" entry for the Non-Gender Related/Other section of the Double Standard page really needs to go. It's bugged me for a while: This is a standard. It's not a double standard. There are no two groups being compared. Most real double-standards fit this general model: "If person A does action X they get outcome Y. If person B does action X they get outcome Z." The sample comic illustrates this well. Or to dig up a classic, "If a man (person A) is promiscuous (action X), he is lauded (outcome Y). If a woman (person B) is promiscuous (action X), she is degraded (outcome Z)." This entry omits the second half. If someone doesn't want a baby they're bad, that's all. If it were, say, "If a man doesn't want a baby, that's normal. If a woman doesn't want a baby, that's bad," that would be a double standard, but this is explicitly a cross-gender problem. You can't plug it into the A/B/X/Y/Z format above, like you can virtually everything on the page.

The further problem is that it comes across as a screed, not a look at a trope. The confrontational tone of the entry, the lack of ties to fiction as opposed to real life ("This is not about double standards in the real world. It is about double standards in storytelling.") found in the use of second person, and the laundry list of links makes it look rather more like someone bothered by this trend decided they wanted to complain to TVT about it, and mistakenly described it as a "double standard" despite it not having a selective effect.

If nothing else, perhaps the tone of this entry could be dialed back so it's no longer a railing against the impression of real-world injustice. Cut the caps and exclamations, remove the unnecessarily confrontational second-person perspective, and just generally redo it to be less of a complaint and more of an observation.

A glance at the discussion page will make it clear I'm not alone in being bothered by this. At any rate, editing to correct tone would be ideal, but I think the entry just needs to go altogether as a non-example.

We're caught up, except for:

3722: Please write up the example as it should appear on the page and it can be added.

3726: I'll start working on this, but I'm not guaranteeing it'll get done soon.

3733: I'll take a look at it...if you and the others discussing the issue have a way to rewrite the example to fix the issue, please post it.

You're very welcome, and thanks to you (and everyone else) for bringing these things to our attention. The last two are done, and the last two folders on Double Standard have been fixed link-wise except for the last issue raised.

To complete monster A Song of Ice and Fire, add Vargo Hoat;

Yes, you cut Brave Companions because it violated "no groups" rule, but their leader should still go.

Also, there has been a consensus to cut Chris from Total Drama from complete monster Western Animation page. He doesn't count.

And also, lock complete monster Stephen King page. It was discussed long time ago, and is probably clean.

in the Final Fantasy VII, please edit the line with a link to AKIRA to add the namespace:

** [[{{Akira}} The motorcycle sequence]].
to
[=** The motorcycle sequence.

The namespace migration for this title is otherwise nearly complete.

Re: 3735: Thank you for your attention! But I'm personally at a bit of a failure to come up with a way to rewrite it for the simple reason I can't think of a way to justify this entry being on the page in the first place, nor can some others. I'm afraid I have no proposed rewrite to offer.

Well since it has been removed from both Finger Poke of Doom(for some reason) and So Bad Its Horrible(probably for just being an isolated moment of stupid) Cider motions to add Tara's finger poke of doom match to Professional Wrestling.

* Tara lost the Knockout Title in a Finger Poke of Doom match against Madison Rayne just three days after winning it at Bound For Glory. No one, in the history of wrestling, has ever liked a Fingerpoke of Doom match in any way: it kills a title's prestige, it pisses off the audience, and it kills the momentum of whatever angle is happening at the time. Oh, and one Fingerpoke of Doom match between Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan helped kill WCW.

The horrible entry is more informative than the Fingerpoke's page and it has to go somewhere after all. We'd be doing the wrestling industry a disservice if we did not categorize every notable finger poke of doom.

Please change Moral Guardians' Pokemon example to the following to avoid mentioning Ghestis as a Complete Monster (IIRC he's not one, neh?):
* In a delightfully caustic TakeThat to the good decade or so of Moral Guardians complaining in the franchise's history, the villains in ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' are a gang known as Team Plasma, a polarizing group that aims to forcibly separate people from their Pokémon ''for the same reasons as real Moral Guardians intend with pretty much everything'' (for good measure, they're dressed as [[VisualPun literal]] [[KnightTemplar Knights Templar]] and their logo resembles the [[SigilSpam Chi Rho]]). Even better, they're almost entirely {{hypocrite}}s; [[WellIntentionedExtremist only one of them, their official leader N Harmonia, has any actual altruism behind this villainy]]. [[TheManBehindTheMan The leader who is actually pulling the strings]], Ghestis, intends to use Pokémon to dominate a world where no one else is allowed to use them, and the [[{{Mook}} grunts]] are just [[KickTheDog casually cruel]] and support Ghetsis' intentions.
