Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

On complete monster Film page, there is another candidate for removal

  • Dario "used to be with the Contras until they kicked him out." He must have been pretty bad for that to happen. He carried out said order to cut out the heart.

This is the line; can you cut it?

The reason why it should be cut, is because he is nowhere as evil as his boss and his only bad act was under the orders of his boss.

Pædo Hunt's discussion page has a suggestion to rewrite one of the examples. For reference, it's the Hard Candy entry.

I really can't believe I'm doing this but...

Post 3524, regarding several of the tropes that were requested to be added to the page for 50 Shades of Grey.

I have read through the first book and the chapters mentioned in its entirety and I don't recall the examples given being rape. I've also read through the second book in the series and I don't recall any examples of rape with Christian and Ana occurring.

I do, however, agree that there was an example of attempted rape in the second book between Ana and her boss Jack Hyde. He was alone with her and essentially blackmailed her into sex. He most likely would have gone further than touching her breasts if she hadn't pulled his fingers back and kicked him in the groin.

The other tropes mentioned though, I'm a bit iffy on. WITH THAT SAID, my memory could be wrong or I could have ignored it for the sake of my sanity.

Were the examples of rape given rape through deceit? (I don't remember if that's what it's called, I apologize if I'm wrong.) If so, can that be specified?

I'd like a justification for adding those tropes because right now it ... sounds a bit like awfulizing or villianizing the book. Which we don't need because there are SO many horrible things in the book series already without having to resort to adding in rape where it might not be.

I apologize ahead of time if this sounds like I'm belittling rape or sexual assault. That's not my intention, I'd just prefer some clarification on the matter.

Can we please remove the James Bond example from the Osama Bin Laden page? That movie (The Living Daylights) was made in 1987, long before anyone either knew, wanted or even cared about Bin Laden. Any similarities are, in fact, coincidental at best. Bin Laden was not the only Mujahadeen leader in existence at the time. Listing it as an example of Bin Laden in the media is case of Small Reference Pools at best. Just because the movie character is an Afghan, an educated man who leads a resistance army, does not make him Bin Laden. Like I said, there were many Mujahadeen leaders just like that.

[up][up][up] I also reread that scene in Chapter 12 and it seemed pretty consensual to me and it is not a Bed Trick either, but I guess from A Certain Point of View you could call it rape*

, maybe move them to Ymmv???

The contexts of it is she emails him "I have seen enough, it was nice knowing you" as a joke so he shows up and asked "did you mean knowing me in the biblical sense... I came here to show how nice it is to know me" and it is implied that she initiated the sex by saying she lunged at him, also her roommate is just outside the room so she could of shouted for help if was the rape it is being said it was.

These trope examples should probably be move to ymmv or just cut.

Ooops, look at that you can actualy click on those lock buttons and they tell you where to go, who knew, I just went to the history page... Sorry for the PM Willbyr, A n00b I am!

but any way, here are some tropes I found for Fifty Shades Of Grey, feel free to edit or exclude anything you don't think is appropriate.

* CurvesInAllTheRightPlaces: A male version in the way Christian pants hang from his hips in just the right way.

* FreedomFromChoice: This is what Christian claims is the benefit of being a sub.

** And on a more meta level this is the [[{{Analysis/Escapism}} Escapist fantasy]] that makes this book popular, Christian Grey is a man that knows how to please a woman without needing to be told how or needing to ask.

* HatesBeingTouched: Christian [[spoiler: cured by ThePowerOfLove.]]

* PropertyOfLove: Christian AND Anna love to tell each other "Your mine."

* PunctuatedForEmphasis: Christian lapses into this when he gets upset, which is often.

* SafeWord: The standard red for stop yellow for slow down are established in Chapter 11 and it is implied that Ana could have stopped any sex that happened or was threatened after that point.

* TitleDrop: a rare 3 different titles dropped, Fifty Shades and Master of the Universe being said multiple times and {{Literature/Twilight}}, referring to the time at night, being said once in the second book.

Yandere Should be

* PsychoExGirlfriend / {{Yandere}}: Leila, Christian's ex-sub.

Ymmv page

* {{Padding}}: The Email conversations and the submissive rules and contract that are printed in the book twice take up a lot of space without adding much content.

* {{BDSM}}: It's promised, talked about, but not really delivered. As a matter of fact, as the story goes on, it's implied that hardcore BDSM is bad.

^ this last one was on this page previously and I think it's important to note this about the series

[down] Starts off as the Unconflicted version but is defiantly the Conflicted type by the second book.

I think Bastard Boyfriend could be added to Fifty Shades Of Grey, since Christian fits the definition to a T.

Ok, Gray Sloth, I don't think you understand how YMMV works. BDSM isn't YMMV. It's not even a trope. It's a Useful Note. YMMV is for tropes classified as Audience Reactions, not for any trope that might or might not apply. Therefore, not doing the YMMV edits. If you disagree over how a trope applies, take it to the discussion page.

[up] I looked on the discussion page for 50 Shades of Grey and they said to take requests to edit the page here as the discussion page is less likely to be noticed.

I'm confused, which one are we supposed to do? Because I'm getting conflicting answers.

Use the discussion page to first work out with other tropers about whether a controversial/subjective/whatever trope applies. Once a decision has been reaced, make the edit request here.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

It's fine, to leave bdsm part out if it does not belong on ymmv and is too inappropriate for the literature page I just think it's important to know as most people think fifty shades is hardcore bdsm which could not be farther from the truth.

Also, Sorry I did not even think to go to the disscution page of a locked page, it surprises me that you can, n00b strikes twice.

Oh I found another thing that needs to be edited for 50 Shades of Grey.

Relationship Compression is listed as a trope. Relationship Compression, however, is a trope dealing with the change of pace of relationships from one adaptation to another. 50 Shades is still a book, therefore it's not an example of that trope.
