Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

Important Note: The page locking bug introduced in the 1.8 update has been mostly fixed, however, there are still some recurrences we are working on debugging.

You can get around a spurious page lock by going to https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/wysiwyg_source_editor.php?groupname=Namespace&title=Title. If the page is still locked, it's likely checked out by another troper.

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through YKTTW.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  7. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Friday for Magnificent Bastard and on Tuesday for Complete Monster.
  8. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and the 5P Circuit and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

Minor nitpick, but should that be "one of whom"?

Looks like it was given the OK, albeit with a suggestion of a slight edit, so may someone add this to the Final Fantasy VII page?:

Should the section on Permanent Red Link Club about Ann Coulter and Jack Thompson mention how the latter should not be confused with the non-controversial Creator.Jack Thompson page? Same with Tim Buckley and Music.Tim Buckley.

Also on that page, does All Men Are Rapists belong under "Misused trope name" since it wasn't renamed from All Men Are Perverts, just merged (and not even with a redirect)?

There's a grammar error in that entry, the BB page is not linked properly, and there's already a link in the drop down tab.

Mostly done to here, save for:

  • All Men Are Rapists: Eh, perhaps it fits into the unsorted section but I think the issue is that the page lock was inherited and had nothing to do with the cut rationale. PRLC is more for things that aren't safe even after cutting.
  • YMMV.The Last Of Us Part II: I can't say that I like such "see this other page" entries.

"[[HaikuWiki Haiku]]" to "{{Haiku}}"

Because then it's at least not linking directly to itself...

Would like to add this to the Shout-Out page for Cyberpunk 2077.

  • In the Glen neighbourhood in Heywood, you can find a young man who has died and crashed his bike after attempting to jump from a great height. Nearby, you can find a datashard that says that the man's name is Pablo, and that he was offered a chance to recreate a braindance version of a "cult classic" video from Eastern Europe that was created 71 years ago. It's a reference to a Polish viral video titled "Pawel Jumper", which shows a young man jumping from some stairs on his bike and faceplanting onto concrete. If you plug the coordinates from the datashard into Google Earth, you can see the parking lot where the original video was recorded. In the Polish dub, if you wound an enemy they might scream out "Ala, kurwa, rzeczywiscie!" ("Ouch, fuck, you were right!"), which is what Pawel says after his fall.
  • If you scan one of the guitars on display in Kerry's house, you can see that the model is called "Astral Rock" and it was made by a company called "Delif" in the year 2023. It's a reference to a Polish company called Defil that builds guitars, violins, piano mechanisms and mandolins. Their most recognised guitar model is called "Aster Rock".
  • In the Badlands, you can find corpses of a few members of a LARP session, with a model of vault doors with the number 101 on them.

(Under "To The Witcher, CD Projekt RED's other big game:")

  • The shop clerk you meet in the sidemission called "Bullets" is named Dennis Cranmer, like one of the dwarves from Sapkowski's books, who appeared in the "Last Wish" short story. He doesn't appear in the mainline game, but he does appear in Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
  • If you look closely at Dexter DeShawn's boots, you can see that the gold plates on their tongues have the symbol of the wolf school on them.
  • Some of the graffiti around the town says "Cirilla" and "Cintra Rulez".
  • Near one of the bridges in the western part of Night City, you can find some floating barrels with chests attached to them. It's a reference to "Skellige Contraband" discoverable spots from the third game.
  • In the Vista Del Rey neighbourhood you can find a locale called "Dandelion's cocktails", referencing Geralt's bard friend.
  • One of the cyberpsychos you're tasked with taking down, Dao Hyunh, has a shard that references Itlina's Prophecy.
  • An advert for Fuyutsuki Electronics features a man with a medalion that's stylised to look like Geralt's wolf school medalion.

Hi. I have an edit request for YMMV.Cyberpunk 2077. One of the Older Than They Think examples mentioned Saints Row 2 and its gender slider, and I was wondering if it could be rephrased from this...

In light of the game being attacked on social media for making the character creator more inclusive to transgender and gender-fluid players, it should be noted that Cyberpunk 2077 isn't even the first game to include gender-free options. The Saints Row series have always allowed players to mix masculine and feminine traits, and Saints Row 2 even had a gender slider.

...to this.

In light of the game being attacked on social media for making the character creator more inclusive to transgender and gender-fluid players, it should be noted that Cyberpunk 2077 isn't the first game to include gender-free options. Starting from Saints Row 2 (which had a gender slider as an option for customization and was released in 2008), the Saints Row series has allowed players to mix masculine and feminine traits for their Boss.

My given name is not a typo.

An example for Emo Teen under Western Animation:

  • Phineas and Ferb: In "Bee Day", Candace takes a "teen identity" magazine quiz, and to her surprise, she gets labeled as an emo teen. With Stacy's help, she adopts an emo look (dark clothes, skinny jeans, black hair with a pink stripe, and round glasses) and gives up on her quest to bust her brothers because nobody understands her, instead writing melancholy poetry. At the end of the episode, it's revealed she filled out the magazine quiz wrong and her identity is really "Busting and Crush Obsessed Older Sister Type Who Can't Do Math."
Stacy: Okay, to the Internet. (starts typing on her laptop) Here we go. Emos believe everyone's against them.
Candace: How can you say that to me?
Stacy: They're highly sensitive and drama queens.
    Candace: No, I'm not!
Stacy: You know, as teenage sub-cultures go, it's not so bad.

I think that the chronology on UsefulNotes.Donald Trump requires a rewrite - as it stands it's a bit too "prose-line". And, frankly, I think all we need to know is that he was impeached twice, lost re-election, and perhaps about the Capitol riot. We are not writing a biography here.

Done to here otherwise.

[up] I agree with Septimus that the Donald Trump page is too prose-line in addition to needing some updates. I have absolutely zero idea how to write a page for him that fits in the style of the other presidents' pages without entering into full Flame War territory, since the entire narrative of his presidency has been so shaped by media coverage and even listing some of his policies as he described them might be viewed as criticism. Here's my best shot at an edit, though I leave it entirely to the mods to determine whether it needs further alterations. Propose replacing the last four paragraphs ("In the early hours of Wednesday..." to "...since George H.W. Bush in 1992.") with:

Despite the numerous controversies that marked his campaign, Trump won the 2016 presidential election with 304 state electors, note  becoming the fifth person to lose the popular vote but win the presidency. Hillary Clinton telephoned Trump with her concession, and he was inaugurated the following January.

Trump was the first elected president to have never previously held elected or appointed political office or serve in the military; he is also likely the richest person to become president.note  His stances and often aggressive demeanor, captured best by his active presence on Twitter, made him a target of intense scrutiny and criticism in the media while also winning him strong support among his followers. In 2019, Trump was impeached by the Democrat-controlled House for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, charges rooted in allegations that he had used his office to pressure the Ukrainian president into investigating Joe Biden, Trump's likely opponent in the 2020 presidential race. This made Trump the third president to be impeached, though he was acquitted by the Senate.

Trump's 2020 campaign was largely defined by his response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and its impact on the economy. While he actually gained votes compared to 2016, he ultimately lost the election to Biden, becoming the first incumbent to lose reelection since George H. W. Bush in 1992. Trump became the first candidate to refuse to publicly concede their loss since the tradition began in 1896 and actively fought to overturn the results, insisting that they were fraudulent. Despite no election official finding evidence of widespread fraud and dozens of judges determining his claims to be baseless, Trump continued to insist that he had won and organized a rally of thousands of supporters outside the White House on January 6, 2021, the day Congress would formally certify the results, to pressure Congress into rejecting them. Members of this rally marched to the Capitol in a mob and stormed the building, which resulted in five deaths, including one Capitol police officer, and interrupted the certification for several hours while police and military forces were summoned to secure the premises. Though Trump finally conceded after the certification, Democrats and several Republicans viewed the Capitol disturbance as an attempted insurrection incited by the sitting president. The House quickly reconvened and, for the first time in U.S. history, impeached the president a second time.

As part of handling overly long pages...

Move these WMG from Harry Potter Main, to Harry Potter Hogwarts?

  • The Sorting Hat contains the ghost of Hogwarts' 'Fifth Founder.'
  • Slytherin sorts for sociopathy
  • The Sorting Hat takes into account family relation when sorting
  • The Sorting used to be a magical selection system, but centuries of tradition have turned it into self-fulfilling prophecy.

And these from Harry Potter Main to Harry Potter Real World Theories?

  • An expression of electrical technology that is as or more powerful (and/or as or more simplistic) as a given work of magic, yet simplistic enough to survive from startup to the point where it surpasses the magic, is in fact able to cause magic to malfunction in the same way that magic causes technology to malfunction, and thus the industrial and technological revolutions have affected wizarding society.
  • The previous Prime Minister tried to kill Fudge on purpose, and was Margareth Thatcher
  • No magical creature in the wizarding world existed before the myth or myths attributed toward it.
  • The wizarding community allied with the Dementors in Roman times.
  • The Statute of Secrecy was due to the Enlightenment
  • Chamber of Secrets had rape overtones in its narrative that may have been intentional.
  • Lavender Brown was either a girl or a composite of several girls that JK Rowling disliked from her teenage years.
  • The British Army turned the tide in Voldemort's first insurrection. This allowed for British economic recovery in the following years
  • London's Millennium Bridge is a rebuild.
  • The Malfoy family descend from the Normans.
