We as writers have access to that cop-out we like to call "Time Skip". I would prefer we not use it until it becomes necessary,and finding nothing would be a bit anticlimactic since we've put a bit of effort into this little sidequest so far. So, either we turn up with something, like, say, the remains of the victim but no villain, or we actually find the perpetrator as well, and cut away on the searching time through timeskippery as necessary. That is my proposal at least.
