^^^ Interesting. It looks phenomenal, but I think they went a little too far with detail - it's difficult to look at, makes my eyes hurt a little, and they're just so much stuff.
Also, I recognize that Boss Theme remix from what might be Newgrounds: is this real, because if so, I'm wondering if they got permission to use it.
Well, Sega won me over. This is definitely not going to be Sonic Rush 3(4?).
@ Sonic 2 HD: Oh. My. God...
Looks so awesome, but kinda agree they kinda went overboard with the backgrounds and stuff. However I'd like to see the full game remastered...
Sonic hates SOPAWhy were there Motobugs in a Sonic 2 remake? And why the bloody heck was that giant Egg-mecha hovering in the background? There was a reason most of the Sonic games didn't stick the final boss in the background of the very first level, and it wasn't graphical limitations.
Which would probobly be the same price, if a bit more due to having a box and disc, than all the downloads combined?
Sonic hates SOPAIsn't that the average price of a regular Wii game?
Sorry, been kinda a long time since I bought any games.
Sonic hates SOPAAnd the video of 3D Sonic 2 sparks a bunch of controversy in the Fan Dumb AGAIN. hey guyz this one guy remade Sega's own game in 3D, proving sega is stupid and worthless.
Please, let us filter Fan Dumb out of this thread... That stuff kills brain cells faster than alcohol.
Sonic hates SOPAWouldn't it be a better use of money to just wait for the console versions to get released?
Sonic hates SOPAOkay. Just played through Acts 1 and 2 of Splash Hill Zone.
- First of all, this game is most definitely not "Sonic Rush 3". It plays very similarly to the Genesis games. Sonic seems a tiny bit more floaty, but there's not much of a difference physics-wise.
- The controls are good, especially for an iPhone game.
- The loading screen consists of Sonic's old sprite, and they reused the old "extra life" sprite.
- The homing attack is very well-integrated, and you can't win just by mindlessly spamming it everywhere. In fact, mistiming a homing attack usually sends you tumbling to the ground.
- The frame rate does stutter a bit, especially when you're on a loop. But I have a 2nd-gen iTouch, and later devices should be able to handle it fine.
- The game is zoomed in a bit too much. It's not unbearable, but it does make obstacles a harder to see.
- One interesting difference - in the Genesis games, if you lost, say, 100 rings, you'd only see 5-6 lost rings on the screen. Here, if you lose 100 rings, you'll see 100 rings.
- The level design is decent, almost exactly like the old Sonic games. There's a ton of branching paths, which I wasn't really able to check out on my first playthrough.
- The Special stages are awful. You have to rotate the screen around and tap the screen to make Sonic jump. To progress, you have to gather a certain amount of rings to unlock barriers. The controls are incredibly loose, Sonic bounces around like a pinball whenever he touches a wall and rarely did I feel I was in control. Hopefully, the other versions will be better.
- You pretty much unlock every Zone the second you've finished Act 1 of Splash Hill Zone. You can play them in any order, and the game saves after you've completed an Act. However, you do have to complete every Act to unlock the boss. This was probably done since most iPhone owners play games for short periods of time.
- There are boosters, but not that many. I'd say there's as many in Splash Hill as there are in Chemical Plant Zone.
- The difficulty is about on the level of Sonic 3. I never died, but I've been having trouble gaining momentum. This might because of the zoomed-in screen.
- The music's...okay. The composer sure loves his synth brass. :| You guys might like it, though.
EDIT: Played through Casino Steet Zone, Act I:
- It's Casino Night Zone. The sprites are the same, the music is the same, same enemies, and the slot machines have returned. I kept getting Robotnik for some reason.
- The collision detection kind of worries me. The pinball flippers felt..."sticky". It's hard to describe. If you're on the "hinge" end of the flipper, you'll fail to launch. It's not a bad thing, but it's definitely different from Sonic 2. Also, there were some floating platforms that had a slightly off hitbox.
- The level design is a bit...bland. Like the game was going through the motions. Maybe the next Acts will be better.
Nope, Act 2 is horrible. Basically, you have to keep playing a slot machine until you get to 100,000 points, but...
- Awful placement of bumpers and flippers means that just getting to the slot machine is a challenge. There's a spring...but try to use it and you hit the bottom of a flipper. Use that flipper...and you'll hit a bumper and fall to the ground.
- The slot machine takes much longer than it did in Sonic 2. If you get a Robotnik, you'll be waiting 10-15 seconds to get covered in spikes so you can move on and try again.
- There's all these tiny physics problems, that when added up make me want to pull my hair out. I cannot believe playing slots could be so painstaking and tedious.
I give up. Maybe Sonic Colors will be better.
Mad Gear Zone:
- Sonic Rush 3. Hold right to win and use the homing attack on everything. Makes for a good breather level after that last abomination. It doesn't really have a lot in common with Metropolis Zone.

I read a few posts by the 'Sonic Guy' on Penny Arcade that indicates the iPhone version is in fact pretty much the leaked version. Not the updated version.
Just wait for console releases, I say.
