Its named after a character, which is something we try to avoid and get rid off from what I understand.

My suggestions:

Maybe Literal Dog Kicker ? Hmm...that would only truly apply for dogs. Or just Dog Kicker....maybe too confusing.

I dislike character-named tropes in general, as characters have more than one attribute, and this reduces them to just that attribute, and limits the trope to others that are like them. The Cruella could be someone who only wants real, soft fur, or someone with a deathly pallor and white hair, or etc...so they are not as clear. But is there misuse? Are people unclear about what characteristic makes one The Cruella?

Character named isn't always bad. It's just when a character isn't iconic enough. So the question should be is she iconic enough, not that being character named is an automatic rename. That is for being named after works.

The Cruella found in: 29 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 27 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

And that's terrible.

@ OP:

No. 3 might be confused for "A character who frequently preforms evil deeds," instead of a more literal interpretation.

Definitely needs to change.

I don't have any new suggestions. Hates Animals is good. Literal Dog Kicker made me laugh, but it might be too unclear.

Let's look through the wicks (excluding indexes and similar pages). Also listing edits I'm making as I look through them, for the sake of disclosure.

Now even though I fixed those three incorrect uses, I will count them. So we have three misuses out of 29.

Cruella de Vil

If that wick count doesn't strike you as unimpressively low

That's only a valid response if you prove the name is impeding the wick count. Otherwise it's simply a lack of either entry pimping, or the trope isn't as common as people think.

At the very least, the page could use some search-able redirects.

Hm... I personally think The Cruella should be iconic enough to get the point of the trope across. 30 wicks in a year and a half doesn't necessarily mean it's the name's fault, if it's not all that common a trope. Come to think of it, if a trope has a low wick count, it seems to me like it's likely to stay low since it's not being seen enough to get spread.

On the other hand, some would scream Fan Myopia at me for saying she's iconic enough and blah blah blah, so at the very least, a redirect or two is in order.

They lost me. Forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the One, my father's son, what am I supposed to be?

Plus trying to use a song about the character to prove the name isn't working just defeats that argument.

At Spell Blade:

I know, it was a pun on Kick the Dog that was done better with Literal Dog Kicker. I don't really like Loves To Kick The Dog, but I thought I would suggest it anyway in case someone else would like it.

At anymore:

As to whatever Cruella is iconic enough, I don't really know. She was not particularly memorable to me, but I might be based because I don't really like Disney. When I think of Cruella, her love of fur coats stands out more to me then her hate/sadism towards animals.

She is a villain of a movie staring puppies and what most catch your memories is her fur clothes? tongue Anyway, love for fur is under 'animal hating' steriotype, so it is fine.

Anyway, it don't seems to have a considerable number of misuses, but the number of wikis is small. How do we usually proceed in this case? I find hard to believe the problem is the name, although I admit it could be the case. How would we check that?

Well let's see how common the trope actually is.

Also, this isn't hating animals as much as being prone to animal cruelty. There is a bit of a difference.

[up] And "loves fur" and "enjoys being cruel to animals" most certainly do not go hand-in-hand.

I agree with Dragon Quest Z.

The wick count is indeed unimpressive, but not every trope can have a bajillion wicks. There needs to be evidence that it's actually under-represented here, relative to how common it actually is in the media.

A more searchable redirect wouldn't be a bad idea, I suppose, (but there's no need for a lengthy discussion for that) though honestly, if I wanted to find this trope without knowing its name, I might just search for Cruella anyway (to see what trope she fits under :P).

I think Cruella is iconic enough. The question is whether that trait is the first thing people think about when they hear her name. It isn't for me.

[up]That at least is a good argument.

What about tweaking it? Keep her as the trope namer, just better context than "The" (which I assert for a lot of those tropes)?

The first thing I think of when I think of Cruella de Vil is that she's a crazy bitch with creepy hair who hates puppies and has a swanky theme song.

I guess that's more like the first four or five things. Hating puppies is pretty high up on the list of her defining characteristics, though.

[up][up] Cruella to Animals is certainly more clear, and does have a nice punnishness. Except for my aversion to character names in general, I like it.

[up][up] Also, note that with a little common sense, it can be assumed that it's not about her hair style or theme song, because sge isn't the most triumphant example for these as for animal cruelty.

And, well, n one is misusing it that way, either.
