Well, there is now the Halloween weekend sale. Wallets are going to SCREAM for the next two months I guess.

Myself, I'm going to get Cthulhu Saves The World/Breath Of Death VII.

Several cool indie games are on sale. This includes Aquaria at $5, Braid at $5, and also discounts on VVVVVV and Super Meat Boy, though I'm not a fan of those games so I don't remember how much those two are.

Anyone know how much of a commission Steam takes on sales of non-Valve games?

VVVVVV is $2.50 and Super Meat Boy $7.50, they are also in a bundle of indie games (with Half Life 2).

Just got Portal 2 and Orcs Must Die at the discounts they're in now. Can't go wrong with that. Now to wait for the New Vegas DLC discounts...

If you have money in your Paypal account, it's usable immediately to buy stuff on Steam, right? Is there a minimum spending amount, such as you have to put in at least $5, if you use Paypal? Does using Paypal force you to use funds in specific increments, such as $5 increments?

Yes, Steam does take Paypal, and there's no minimum aside from adding funds to your Steam Wallet.

When using Paypal, it seems I have to enter an address. This thread suggests that this requires a "confirmed address" on Paypal. I guess that means I enter the address I have on file on my Paypal account?

I bought myself Orcs Must Die!, as well as a gift copy of Mass Effect 2 in case I change my mind and want to trade it for something else.

I'm mainly waiting for New Vegas' DLC to go on sale, as well as Mafia II.

I put on my robe and tinfoil hat...

Paypal will handle transactions for you even if you have no money in your Paypal account, or even no actual paypal account. I just use it to speed online checkouts and sometimes have my family send me cash.

I don't know of any special ways Paypal would interact with Steam, but I doubt there are any. If you maintain funds with them, they take that first, and after that go to your credit card or bank account.

Payments made to Steam should be available as soon as payments made any other way. The only delay that I've seen in transfer of funds is from Paypal to my bank account.

VVVVV $1.24 - I usually like gravity games, but I played the demo, and I'm not spending any money on something that's going to make me hulk out like that.

Portal 2 would be a good price if I had a machine that could play it. :/

Braid is now mine.

Chantelise, Fate of the World, Fallout. If I get one of those, I can get a choice of one of the following as well: Steel Storm, Defy Gravity, Starscape, and Tobe's Vertical Adventure.

Alternatively, I can get three of those last four, if I don't get any 4.99 game.

I should have waited to buy Terraria. It's now $2.50, instead of $4.99.

Except as much as you would like, you can't predict the discounts.

And $10 -> $5 is arguably better than $5 -> $2.50.

GlennMagusHarvey Since: Jan, 2001

But if it were $10 I would not have bought it in the first place, so that price is actually moot to me.

I should have been more clear. What I meant was that I'm sure you would prefer the current situation, buying Terraria at -50% only to find a later -75%, and not missing the -50% for a larger discount which might have never happened.
