^As far as I know, all those magazines have 'Jump' in the name.

Can Akito/Mashiro do manga for another Shueisha(I think that correct spelling for the company that owns Shonen Jump) magazine if they already been rejected by Shonen Jump?

^If those magazines have a way of communicating with each other, it would certainly hurt their chances.

New update.

It looks like they didn't get in. Based on Mashiro's reaction though, it appears that this isn't actually going to be a big setback, but I'm hard pressed to guess why.

...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

Uh... its an observable fact that there are many women blow huge wads of cash in an attempt to recapture youth and/ or become more beautiful.

I really think you're looking too hard at this.

So, when I read that page, I thought 'Hoo boy, that's going to restart the sexism debate in the TV Tropes thread.' Make of that what you will.

Also, it's fantastic to see Takagi writing something he likes again.

That part grated on me too, but I'm willing to grant that the choice probably would be different for men and women on average, although not in each specific case. The statement can be interpreted in a manner that makes sense and is accurate, but I'm not sure how much credit to extend given that Takagi and Mashiro are pretty clearly sexist by the standards of American society.

Besides, I dunno about you, but while there are a lot of women that value looks over brains, guys aren't that much different. They just tend to take the more muscle-y trail.

Eh, it doesn't bother me too much. Well, kinda, but not enough to make me really annoyed with Mashiro and Takagi...

I am a little sad how we never see Kaya doing anything interesting anymore. All she seems to do is pop up in a couple panels here and there to serve tea and food.

Good point.

But maybe with a little character development...

It's not a game-changing setback because they were given 6 months of grace period, rather than one story. They still have a few more tries.

I'm kind of glad it didn't get in, honestly. I think they can do better than something that's largely a retread of old ground.

I wonder what kind of manga they'll be doing next?

Not action, that's for sure. I'm not sure how a shounen romance would work for them. Something with conspiracy?

Well, even in US society, really smart girls are conditioned from their youth to hide that intelligence in order to be more pleasing. A girl that is too intelligent intimidates dudes and is alienated from her peer group. Ask any psychologist who has been treating gifted children for a long time and discovers their parents are gifted themselves and didn't know it.

Men also are alienated by intelligence (Intelligence Equals Isolation after all), but they are expected to see each other hierarchically, so they can deal with it more easily from their predefined gender roles.

BTW, I still have to see an Intelligence Equals Isolation female character that doesn't go The Daria route. Especially one that goes for world-changing Ubermensch-dom (Ubermadshen? BTW, why don't we have any female examples in that page?).

@Raw Power: Where the fuck do you live? My parents are all about me being smart. They'd wish I take care of my hair better, sure, but intelligence outranks physical looks.

I remember reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray, and one of the people at the beginning said that intelligence was more shallow than beauty.

Actually, I'm still not sure he's wrong. I know there are certain things I'd trade a g point or two for.

Well, whether it is more shallow or it is not, is irrelevant. The problem is assuming how gender will be a huge deciding factor. It might be a minor deciding factor, but it's not going to be that different of a choice for men and women.

It might be, or it might not. In terms of genetic predisposition, it would probably be a rather small difference, if there was one at all, but in terms of social conditioning, I wouldn't be surprised if it were rather large, although the degree would vary by place.

I meant "even in US society" as in "in the whole world, even in Western Society, even in your US Society, girls are encouraged by their peers to value beauty (and social skills) over smarts." Men, on hte other hand, are trained to value money/power over smarts/inherent value.

For one thing, it encourages consumerism.

What parents want depends a lot on the family, but given that they want their kids to be successful in the long term on one hand, and on the other hand don't desire them to have too rich a romantic life before leaving the house, it is only natural they encourage health and intelligence over brands and beauty.
